About this listen

High in the mountains of the Swiss Alps Leah Wilde is about to gamble her life to bring a powerful man an offer. A promise.

Leah has heard the dark stories about him and knows she is walking into the lion's den. But her options are running out. Her rare lineage, kept secret for years, is under terrible threat. That is, unless Leah and her mother Hannah are prepared to join up with their once deadly enemies.

Should the prey ever trust the predator?

Is hope for future generations ever enough to wash away the sins of the past?

With a new and chilling danger stalking them all, and the survival of their society at stake, they may have little choice...

So gripping you'll want to read late into the night; so terrifying you shouldn't (Simon Mayo, Radio 2 Book Club)

Wonderful sequel to The String Diaries

A great sequel to The String Diaries, which should be read first. The world-building is terrific and the energy of the story has kept momentum. The author has a wonderful imagination and one could almost believe these people are grounded in real Hungarian folklore. These books have a wonderful pace and I could easily read more set in this world. Highly recommended.

Fantastic sequel to The String Diaries

This book picks up several years after the end of String Diaries and hits the ground running. The surprises start from page one and the story twists and turns until it's impossible to anticipate where the story is going. Strange new threats are introduced and the entire book races towards an appalling end.

It's so difficult to give a synopsis without giving away major story lines. We start with Leah, Hannah's daughter and discover more about her family's heritage and the links to Jacaab, the monster who has stalked them through generations. He's not dead. That's all that I'm prepared to say!

The plot swirls and the final climax is astounding. It will make you snivel and wipe your eyes. A really, really exciting book. I suppose it's possible there will be Book 3, but it can finish quite well right here.

Powerful

Loved this audio version. Each strand of the fascinating story might be strong enough to stand alone, yet brilliantly woven into this thrilling tale.
The author certainly knows how to cast a spell upon his audience and I for one was indeed captivated.

Narrator made for easy listening, which is a major plus too.

So good I bought the hard copy

Ok so to read this you really need to have read the first book in the series, The String Diaries. These books are by far the best books I have ever downloaded. So good in fact that I limited my listening as I didn't want them to finish. I have bought the hard copies of both books for my family to read. Can't recommend this author highly enough.
