About this listen

Killing machines. Shadow organizations. A desperate attempt to stay sane.

After failing the most important exam of his life, Kyle is forced into a VR war. Now, he fights on the front lines as cannon fodder for what he always assumed was the government, losing a little part of his memories with every virtual death.

When the mission he’s on goes wrong, Kyle is stranded on a planet far from his original destination. Finally given a chance to make an impression in the organization, Kyle will have to risk his mind for a chance at salvation.

If he fails, he'll lose all will to resist: making him the perfect soldier.

Winter Harvest is audiobook one of four in the Space Seasons series, a LitRPG sci-fi space opera set on another world with mechs, spaceships, levels, and...well...pure evil.

Takes a big dip in the story with about 3 hours to go but does recover quite quickly. Only reason for not getting 5 stars. Loved it, got some real armada/rp1 vibes from it!

Excellent

Very good book interesting way of merging future tech with game element. only bad point was stat points not eplaind fully made them seem redundant or space filler, but narrator was good in he rushed over them.

very good book can't wait for book 2

I enjoyed the story for the most part. a bit of a cross over of litrpg genres with the MCs mind being transferred to a body on another planet where there is a game like system. some interesting twists on a popular theme, but far far too many stats. I almost gave up on the book so many times during the random readings overly detailed character sheets that added nothing to the story! I won't be buying the next book because of the stats.

Good story, far far too many stats

When the second chapter made me tear up I knew this was going to be a good one.
The story is solid, the pacing is spot on and the characters are likeable. Some of the interactions between the characters are hilarious.
It's refreshing to read a story that doesn't shy away from emotions.

The only thing that felt a bit off for me were the mechanics. The way some skills work doesn't always makes sense. Nothing major and definitely not a deal-breaker. All in all its a great book.

An emotional rollercoaster

There is a real depth to this story, that can only get better with future books in the series. A really good performance by Neil as usual. Overall very good and looking forward to book 2.

A very good complex story

The story started out great. Nice setting - I actually had feelings for the main character getting the short end of the stick.

Then we touch down into the meat of the world, which seems a little thin, but that'll get topped up later, sort of, a bit, in future books, I assume.

A few twists and chance encounters later, we've got a little action on the go, I can accept them so far, they're interesting and draw the story on.

But with another twist and chance encounter later things are getting strange, why did that happen? who are these guys? a little bit of exposition later and then another twist and another along with a rug pull or two and I've lost who's allied to who, why people are doing what they are doing with/to the MC and the story feels like it is missing swathes of the plot which would allow you to see why it's gone in the direction it has.

Then people are sacrificing themselves for what seems to be giggles, that I'm sure they will explain later, but a touch of common sense would tell you it was unnecessary other than: PLOT DEMANDS BIG FIGHT NOW and the MC can't have too much help for it...

I've read in other reviews the book finishes strong, but I wouldn't know, I've dropped it with 4 hours to go.

If you want action with just a hint of a potential good plot, this book may serve, but I'd take less action for more plot any day of the week. It's a shame because it seemed like a juicy universe.
