About this listen
Behind her back, they call her "The Black Widow".
Daphne McNeil has been widowed four times in 10 years. Each time, her husbands have left her considerable sums of money. She finds that she must use these inheritances to support her beloved charities. The money does not go far enough, and with increasing financial pressures, she becomes desperate.
When Steve Johnson, a forensic scientist, discovers human remains in an isolated lake near Daphne’s drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, he unwittingly puts himself in danger.
He begins to suspect the beautiful widow is not as innocent as she seems. Will he become her next victim?

The narration is excellent.

Our heroine has similar good fortune as her husbands pop their clogs one after another. Unfortunately, the characters lack depth and the story lacked the kind of excitement that I would expect from this genre. I quite liked the fact that Steve was a geocacher as I've done a bit of that myself. But apart from that I found the story uninspiring and just too far-fetched.
The narrator however was excellent! Bill Nevitt always brings such energy and fun to his audiobooks and he is a joy to listen to. His voices for the characters were spot on and I gave his performance 5 stars.
Great narrator - shame about the story!

Even the narration by Bill Nevitt cannot lift this book above the mediocre, although the basic idea , rewritten, could make an amusing film.
Playback was set at 1.25 as it otherwise felt too slow.
My thanks to the rights holder of Widow's Luck, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. It was a very light, slightly irritating story, given the foolish main protagonist, and not one I would recommend
You do not know how much this means to me.

Daphne is a very clever woman unfortunately she can't pick the right husband as four husbands have died all in the space of ten years. The one good thing about being a widow is that each time the men in her life dies they leave her with money, money that she can use to fund orphanages in Africa. She also runs a drug treatment centre in her father's name and this is where she meets Steve not because he is looking for treatment but because he is looking for a bed to spend the night. Steve travel around the country as a forensic mobile until, traveling to where the police needs him to investigate with his ex drug dog companion. But is it really a good idea for the black widow to let a man who likes solving mysteries into her home and even her bed or will the spider become the hunted?
I like Bill Nevitt as the narrator because he does a good job with the story, giving each character a voice that can be heard in the unusual story.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
