Po wypadku na Zawracie Wiktor Forst był zmuszony pogodzić się z tym, że jego zdrowie nigdy nie wróci do poprzedniego stanu. Pożegnał się z bieganiem, a także chodzeniem po Tatrach. Osiadł w Krakowie i niespodziewanie w końcu poukładał sobie życie, odnajdując jego sens w rodzinnej egzystencji z Dominiką i jej dziećmi.
Nie miał zamiaru wracać w góry. Zrozumiał, że to w nich spotkało go wszystko, co najgorsze, i zmusił się, by wymazać je z pamięci. One jednak nigdy nie zapomniały o nim.
Nadciąga zima stulecia, a wraz z jej nadejściem wrócą najmroczniejsze tajemnice, jakie skrywały Tatry.
