About this listen

Playing a virtual game is fun...unless the game wants you dead.

Nigel Watson is a clever teenage hacker who uses his skills to make extra spending money. But, after someone plunders his mother’s bank account and drains the funds, Nigel realizes his hacking could save the family.

Soon, Nigel’s online expertise is noticed by the billionaire founder of the Colossal Machine, a virtual game played by millions of people around the planet. When Nigel is given a chance to show his prowess, his skills outshine the work of the current developers. He even discovers new ways to cheat the game that no one else knows. But, Nigel doesn’t realize that his sudden success has made enemies who want him dead.

Nigel is thrust into the shadows of the Dark Web - a hidden part of the internet where evil can find its way to your door. Little does he know, but the object of the game has become Nigel’s life.

In this cyber thriller, you never know who to trust when the virtual world makes it impossible to decrypt friend from foe.

Interesting Story!

This book is an awesome book, I enjoyed listening to it over and over again. The story is devastating and the characters is engaging. The introduction of the main character portraying the level of discipline related with someone who considers himself a professional gamer/coder was really appreciated. This book also reveals how vulnerable we are and how dark the dark web is. This book is a great cyber-crime adventure. Very interesting and fun book.

Amazing Book Ever

The author has created an intriguing if somewhat frustrating character of Nigel the business savvy gamer. he fits the story well and it is interesting to watch the development of this character. the story is thrilling and explores the cyber hacking world which is gathering popularity recently with films such as 'ready player one' which i thoroughly enjoyed as much as i enjoyed this audiobook.

captivating

Love. Love. LOVE this book.

I enjoy stories where the younger characters have some depth to them rather than reverting back to cliches about teenagers. In this respect the book reminded me a lot of the Maze Runner trilogy.

If you like hacker/cybercrime themes then this will be right up your street.

The narrator did a fantastic job on the ensemble voice work and I can't wait for a sequel.

This is such an exciting and thrilling story. The book is full of suspense and always manages to keep the listener eagerly waiting for what's coming next. The whole cyber/hacker theme is so exciting for me and I think it really adds to the drama! I would definitely recommend listening to the whole thing at one if possible! Perfect for a long flight or a quiet evening!

An excellent listen

I am insanely impressed with the author's ability to tell an awesome story. Such as thrilling and wonderful tale of a young man who is smart as hell and knows how to game the system. I love this book. I can't wait to buy the whole series! Such an amazing narrator too. He keeps things very interesting. I just can't get over how good this is :)

I really liked the characters and adventures into the dark web. Also liked the in-game sequences. Great narration. Can’t wait for book 2.

I wanted to like this book especially as I'm interested in Cyber security, cyber crime, hacking and computer forensics etc, but it just didn't work for me. Maybe if I was a young adult or teen it might have fit better, perhaps my 18 year old son might appreciate it more.

n the intro to the book the author states that he changed a few product names for copyright reasons and I understand that but knowing most of what the "pretend" products/terms really are makes the story that much less believable, less immersive. The writing style itself is, in my opinion, quite immature and definitely more suited to the YA audience than to adult readers. To much Mr.Henry this, Mr. Henry, that, Mr. Henry the other blah blah.

All in all the story simply wasn't too believable, too many unrealistic actions, reactions, plots etc.
The ending leaves a number of unanswered questions obviously setting up a sequel but I'm simply not interested enough to bother with another episode of this.

The narrator does a credible job.

I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

Not very believable
