One of the many engineers that keep Beta, the city under the sea, running, Mira only wants to make her family proud and to prove herself worthy.

But when a human woman saves him, she unknowingly creates a bond between them, one he can't ignore. Even though her flaming red hair haunts his dreams, he needs her for information on the undine's enemies.

So he steals her. Keeps her. Feeds her. Only to realize their bond is far deeper than captor and captive. He cannot let her go but he cannot keep her under the sea, either. In a battle to determine if love can survive a war beneath the waves, it will be their decision that changes the tides.

I had some doubts about starting this one - looks like one of them cheap “action” stories, but this one wasn’t bad at all , pretty decent and well-built.

I started with this book in Emma Hamms collection because I’ve not read a mermaid book before so thought why not. Oh my gods I loved it! Everything about this is perfection. I love how she writes books not just focused on the spicy bits (which let’s be honest were all reading these books for) but an actual story with drama and laughs. Emma Hamm has started something for me with these books and I can’t wait to listen my way through her collection!

As good as the voice actors are PLEASE audible you already have male and female narrators stop making them do voices of the opposite gender, no matter how good they are it’s just not the same. You have some amazing TRUE duel narration if your using 2 narrators make the most of it and make the listening experience better for us.

I own all the books, the pretty covers and have read them multiple times so when I listened to this - it absolutely overwhelmed me all over again. Will is absolute perfection as Arges and his range and inflection when conveying emotion is astounding. Such a beautiful, captivating listen. I will listen to him and this story for years to come and Emma will always be one of my top authors. Stunning.

I really loved the story and loved the male narration. I am definitely going to listen to the other books in this series.

Such an easy listen

The story was quite intriguing in itself and the romance was lovely, however the female narrator was a bit off putting to me... she sounded very stoic. I couldn't decide if this was due to the FMC personality or if this is the narrator's usual manner. Her voice suited Byte better but they were a robotic device so make of that what you will...

The male narration was excellent and really showed the MMC's range of emotions.

Writing narration it was all perfect, wonderful story the descriptions and details depicting under the sea are a dream. I will certainly listen to this again and again. New favourite author.

Came by this completely by chance and thought it would be a spicy palate cleanser. It turned out to be so much more. So well written, narrated and the world building is fantastic. This is the first book in the series and the ocer-arching story is definitely compelling.
