About this listen

Blackstone Audiobooks presents, from the unabridged collection A.A. Milne's Pooh Classics, the 44 poems and verses from When We Were Very Young performed by Peter Dennis. This is the only reading of these delightful verses authorized by A.A. Milne's son, Christopher Robin.

The first of A.A. Milne's four world-famous books for children, When We Were Very Young introduced Christopher Robin to innumerable friends and has probably been read more widely than any other book of verse for children published in our time.

For sheer delightfulness, the children's rhymes of A.A. Milne are in a class by themselves, with their charm, humor, and understanding, to say nothing of their irresistible rhythms.

Critic reviews

"Peter's reading of A. A. Milne's verse and poetry is about you and me and that cognac-colored moment when a scent of memory sends us flying back through time to a place in youth where, for a perfect instant, nothing is wrong." ( Los Angeles Times)

Mixed

Yes the narrator is fine.

But be aware if you wanted this to aid bedtime with younger children. The narrator does their job fully with shouting the marketplace stall owners for example.

There is no chapters! Lots of stories
And the then kids audible add on… at end.

And then when you try to add notes.., the clarinet between each one changes the tune so you can’t skip the sound either.

It’s unabridged, but I’m not in awe and hence why I wrote the review to hopefully assist others with the warnings of what not to expect.

Pure joy

The delivery of these exquisite poems by AA Milne is such a joy. I love reading them, the use of the English language is so clever, but to have them read to me in such a delightful way is just as I’ve said, pure joy.

Lovely read but no “chapters”

Please split into separate chapters for each poem! I had to use the bookmark feature to create my own… the narrator has a lovely intonation, a little hurried on occasion - perhaps just excited to see royalty? ;) Thanks Peter for these incantations of Christopher’s childhood!

Childhood relived

Stories from my childhood, so nostalgic. Bringing back memories of first hearing then. Very enjoyable.

like winnie the pooh but not these

absolutely rubbish narrative hard to get into and doesn't sound like the characters don't really like these mainly due to the narrative
