About this listen
There are 10 golden rules if you want to survive an encounter with a fae:
- Don’t ask their name.
- If they ask you what your name is, lie.
- Avoid looking directly into their eyes.
- Don’t invite them to your book club.
- Don’t instigate a snowball fight.
- Never let them burn their mouth on coffee.
- Don’t ask them where they’re from.
- Don’t tell them where you live.
- Never mention their queen.
- Don’t try to kill them with an ordinary human gun.
If you fail to do any of these things, enslave them immediately.
On a cozy fall morning, Kate Kole is nestled in a coffee shop in the city of Toronto reading her favourite novel, when she accidentally kills a guy who's being rude to the coffee shop's cashier. Unfortunately for Kate, the person she killed was a fae assassin of the North Corner of Ever, visiting the human realm in secret.
From there, four deadly fae assassins come to the human realm to hunt her down for breaking a fairy law and killing one of their own. Leading them is Prince Cressica Alabastian, the most feared and deadly fae assassin of the North and heir to the North Corner of Ever.
After the assassins arrive in the human realm, things go terribly wrong. To Prince Cressica's horror, his assassins unwittingly get roped into running a cozy café on Kate Kole's behalf. To blend in, the fae assassins are forced to learn how to do basic human activities like cleaning up after themselves, driving without road rage, reading popular fantasy books at book club without getting into alpha male fights over what they’re reading, and, in general, be nice, all to blend into regular human society.
With a temper like no other, and deadly power that's unmatched, Prince Cressica seeks to get revenge on Kate Kole. But as he aims to strike where it will hurt her the most, the Prince finds himself enchanted by his human target in more ways than one. And when the darkness of the Ever Corners comes knocking at the human realm's door, he needs to make a choice that could cost him everything.
Welcome to Fae Café is like Holly Black’s tricky Folk of the Air schemes meeting your grandmother’s freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. With a sweet, comical romance and relatable slice-of-life moments colliding with manipulative fairy games and deathmatches, this book puts a spin on the typical fae stories listeners know and love and aims to be the coziest rom-com fae book of all time.
This book may leave you with answers to questions you never know you wanted to ask, such as, "How many fae assassins does it take to screw in a lightbulb?"
With coziness for days, Welcome to Fae Café is a new spin on some of the most popular fae fantasy tropes, in a setting where fae most definitely don't belong. If you liked LEGENDS AND LATTES, by Travis Baldree, this may just be your cup of tea. (Or coffee.)

It's funny how after not reading a certain genre for absolutely ages, two come along in quick succession.
I adored the last book and wondered how that would affect this read - but I can confirm that it was absolutely amazing!
Once again, I adored everything about this book - I'm officially obsessed!
I loved reading fairytales and fairy stories when I was much younger, but hadn't touched this genre for ages until this week!
Rather than being set in the magical Fairy realm, this book sees a tragic accident summoning the Prince and his fae assassins into the human realm and what an adventure that was for them and our lovely main character, Kate Kole.
I loved Kate and her quirky character traits. I found her so relatable and instantly connected with her, her situation and her dreams of opening her bookish cafe.
She was a great character to explore and I couldn't wait for her backstory to unfold.
Prince Cressica and his men were everything!
I loved the way their mission backfired and the way that Kate outwitted them and had them fitting right into human life and her cafe perfectly!
Obviously, there was a whole load of everything going on in the storyline, but there's no way I'm giving you spoilers - suffice to say that this was a roller coaster ride of events and emotions that had me completely hooked and racing through the pages!
The writing style was packed with fun and humour throughout, but there were some darker scenes that left me wondering whether we'd ever get to our happy ending.
It took me a little minute to get used to the timeline jumps - they were a tiny bit confusing at first as we jumped back and forth, but it didn't really take long to get used to and they were very clearly marked up.
I think listening to this on audio made them a bit unclear - but once I got used to what was happening, it made total sense.
These jumps allowed us to see the story unfold from both Kate and Cress' pov which gave us a great insight into both the human and Fae pov, which was great!
I am totally obsessed with this and absolutely need to go and visit The Fae Cafe - how amazing would that be!?
I've spotted that there are another 2 books in the series which follow a different Fae assassin from this book and I definitely need them now!!
*runs to add to basket*!
Cannot wait to dive back into this world and continue the story .....
I'm obsessed - loved everything. about this book!

Welcome to Fae Cafe was full of humour and there were many occasions when I laughed out loud. I really liked the characters especially the three Fae who are with Kate throughout the story. Cress grew on me as the story progressed and by the end I was all for him. The story had plenty of action and there was a good balance between serious storylines and those a little more magical.
The narrator was wonderful. They really brought the story to life and there was a sense of feeling that matched the text in their tone.
If you are looking for humour, romance and family then this is definitely one for you.
Great fun

High Court of the Coffee Bean Book 1.
Listening time 11 hours and 46 minutes.
Narrator Sarah Kisko.
I did enjoy listening to this audiobook. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. I enjoyed the different voices of the different characters. I did like kate straight away. I had to get used to the timeline jumps. Once I did I really enjoyed it. I loved how kate had the assassin's working in her cafe. I did like Cressica when he was with kate's grandmother. There was nothing I didn't like about this audiobook. I loved the ending. It had me laughing. I'm looking forward to the next book.
