When Shirley’s latest climate stunt lands her in serious legal jeopardy, Lela reluctantly lets Shirley stay with her and her boyfriend while awaiting her upcoming trial. As the strain on their relationship reaches fever pitch, Lela must dig deep to determine if she has the emotional fortitude to let her mother back into her life, and whether or not she can trust her with a life-changing secret.

Rooted in the power of acceptance and forgiveness, Weeds (written by Amanda Wilkin) is a heartfelt family drama about finding the strength to stand up for what you believe in, and the courage to see it through.

Playwright Amanda Wilkin was awarded a commission through the Audible Emerging Playwrights Fund, an initiative dedicated to developing innovative original plays driven by language and voice. As an Audible-commissioned playwright, she received funding and creative support to develop Weeds.

About the Playwright

Amanda Wilkin is a playwright, actress, and jazz and blues singer-songwriter from London. In 2017 she was on the Royal Court and BBC London Writers Groups. After touring Hamlet to 188 countries with Shakespeare's Globe, she wrote her first play, And I Dreamt I Was Drowning, which was developed as part of the Talawa Firsts Festival 2018. She has since written and performed short pieces at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, The Little Sob as part of Dark Night of the Soul in early 2019, and Bessie Coleman as part of Notes to the Forgotten She-Wolves in early 2020. About the Director-Matt Harrison

About the Director

Matt Harrison is an award-winning director and theater-maker from Whitby, North Yorkshire. He trained at East 15 Acting School, and on the National Theatre director’s course. He’s a previous National Theatre “New Works Department” resident director, and was a 2021 JMK Award finalist.
Matt has created and directed work at venues including: Northern Stage, Southwark Playhouse, The New Diorama, Park, Ambassadors and Criterion Theatres, as well as the National Theatre's Temporary Space. As an associate he has worked with directors and companies including: Emma Rice, Kathy Burke, and Kneehigh.
Matt is currently developing a show for young audiences with writer Simon Longman, and a new musical collaboration between Olivier Award nominee James Fritz and Leeds-based musicians The Howl & The Hum.

Lesley Sharp is a fellow of Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and an award-winning actress who has appeared at National Theatre, RSC, West End, and worked extensively at the Royal Court Theatre. Most recently she appeared at the Olivier Theatre in Paradise, by Kae Tempest.
Notable television work includes: Clocking Off, Bob and Rose, Afterlife, Scott and Bailey, and more recently, The Full Monty and Before We Die.
Film work includes: Naked, The Full Monty, and Rita, Sue and Bob Too.

Julia Davis is an actress, comedian, director and writer, with many nominations and awards across those fields. She is known for writing and starring in the BBC Three comedy Nighty Night (which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year) and the comedies Hunderby, Camping, and Sally 4Ever, which she also directed and received a BAFTA for Best Scripted comedy in 2018.
In addition to acting in her own works, she has appeared in a variety of other British television comedies and dramas, notably portraying Dawn Sutcliffe in Gavin & Stacey as well as the wonderful Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava, Maureen Guinness in A Very British Scandal with Claire Foy.
Some of her film roles include Love Actually (2003), Four Lions (2010) and the critically acclaimed Phantom Thread (2017). She will be back on the big screen very soon in the upcoming Toxic Avenger with Kevin Bacon.
Davis has been noted by critics for creating boundary-pushing black comedy that centres female anti-hero characters.

Felicity’s varied career includes theater, TV, film, and audio. Some of her many BBC Radio plays include: Far Side of the Moore, Michael & Boris: The Two Brexiteers, Heading for Paradise, The Iraq Dossier, and The Adventures of Sexton Blake. She has also appeared as the reader on BBC Radio 4’s series The Write Stuff.
Other recent projects include Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman (Titania), Sheltered, Sherlock Holmes, and Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets.
Theater credits include the international tour of Mamma Mia playing Rosie, Fiddler on the Roof at the London Palladium, and in repertory theaters all over the country from Salisbury to Liverpool, as well as numerous national tours including Round the Horne Revisited playing Betty Marsden.
This year she appeared in the comedy farce It’s Her Turn Now at The Mill at Sonning.
Currently, Felicity can be seen as Gladys Baker in the Amazon Prime series The Peripheral.

Richard is a multiple award-winning actor, starring in numerous audio dramas, books, and video games. Since graduating from drama school in 2013 he has become a prominent figure in the voice acting industry. Some of his roles for Audible include: Treasure Island, The Darkwater Bride, Oliver Twist, The Ice Children, A Christmas Carol, The Three Musketeers, and Dracula.
Richard has also voiced in animations for Games Workshop, as well as video games which include: Total War: Warhammer 2, Total War: Warhammer 3, Elite: Dangerous, Overwatch 2, Blasphemous 2, and many more.
Richard currently resides in the South of England with his partner and Chihuahua.

Beautifully written. I really felt connected to the characters and their emotions. Lumps in my throat towards the end. I'd highly recommend listening to this.

Absorbed by the monologues in this, told brilliantly by Lesley Sharp. The display of that deep seeded anger about what we're doing to the world gave me goosebumps - from the perspective of the activist and from a women trying to live a 'normal' life.
