About this listen

One of the most beloved novels of our time, Watership Down is an epic journey, a stirring tale of adventure, courage, and survival.

Fiver could sense danger. Something terrible was going to happen to the warren; he felt sure of it. They had to leave immediately. So begins a long and perilous journey of survival for a small band of rabbits.

As the rabbits skirt danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band, its humorous characters, and its compelling culture, complete with its own folk history and mythos. Fiver’s vision finally leads them to Watership Down, an upland meadow. But here they face their most difficult challenges of all.

A stirring epic of courage and survival against the odds, Watership Down has become a beloved classic for all ages. Both an exciting adventure story and an involving allegory about freedom, ethics, and human nature, it has delighted generations with its unique and charming world, winning many awards and being adapted to film, television, and theater.

What a performance

The narration was AMAZING. Peter Capaldi did such a great job. Each character had a distinct accent and voice. A powerful performance.

Stunning book, brought to life

This rendition of one of my favourite books was absolutely perfect. Peters ability to bring the characters to life was great, and the story takes on a new energy with him narrating it.

Of you’ve not read Watership down, treat yourself to this. It won’t ever be illustrated as beautifully.

Amazing!

Please don’t hesitate to listen to this, amazing narration and great story. The rabbits use a language called “Lapine” which is worth looking up in case you get confused with some words which aren’t defined!! Once I’d had a quick google things made a bit more sense!

The wild writ without sentiment, tender and brutal

A tense, tiny saga narrated with grit and zeal. Great characterization that evolves as our heroes adventure. An iconic work.

I hated the bird.

Capaldi-rah delivers in spades.

A Superlative Masterpiece.

The English was excellent, the pros and exposition wonderful. Peter Capaldi's narration is exquisite. Truly one of the best products in the audio catalogue.

Brilliant

This is without a doubt, the best narration I’ve listened to of any audiobook. The book is one of my very favourites since childhood. Thank you.

An incredible story

I watched the film when I was much younger but had never read it or listened to the story until now, I always thought it would be sad and it is but it's also very thought provoking and captivating.

An absolute classic

Firstly, this is my favourite book. I have read it many times before, but I chose to read it along with Peter Capaldi as he read it aloud. What a great way to do it, I absorbed so much more than I have when I read it before and it allowed me to paint the pictures of the story as I read it.

Peter Capaldi is an absolute first class narrator, I'm not sure how he manages to remember the specific voices he uses for each Rabbit, but does so, and makes it a really easy listen.

An absolute classic of a book.
