About this listen

Ex-FBI profiler Jefferson Winter has taken a new case in sunny Louisiana, where the only thing more intense than the heat is a killer on the loose in the small town of Eagle Creek. So far there's just one body, but there are going to be more. But in a town where secrets are rife and history has a way of repeating itself, can Winter solve the case before someone else dies?

Critic reviews

Praise for the author:
"Broken Dolls has it all. Horrifying evil, a brilliant, conflicted profiler and cracking pace and tension. I read it in what seemed like two trembling gulps." Stephen Fry
"Strikingly well-researched and written with a real swagger, it leaves you desperate for more." (The Mail)

If you could sum up Watch Me in three words, what would they be?

Profiling in Detail

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jefferson Winter because he is the one with the insight to people and situations

Have you listened to any of William Hope’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, I have never heard any of William Hope's performance but I would certainly listen to some more

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Towards the end you think you know who the killer is...but you don't...

Any additional comments?

I found this book well written, rich and interesting. More James Carol please..
This book deserves to be on the list for ITV Crime Thriller Awards.

James Carol's second outing for his Jefferson Winter character continues the gripping adventures - enthrallingly read by William Hope - of his ex-FBI serial killer hunter, who's father was executed for a series of murders. When, on his execution, he is told by his father, 'You and I, we're the same,' Jefferson embarks on a life-long journey to prove his father wrong by catching the bad guys. Ironically, it is his 'special insight' into the serial killers' minds, which earns him such a deserved reputation as 'The Guy To Go To'.

Watch Me is small town serial killer perfection. Think Michael Connelly, meets Karen Slaughter, a dash of James Lee Burke. This is excellent writing and story telling. Atmosphere and Noire to die for. Miss at your peril.

Still the same high standard two for two!

Would you try another book written by James Carol or narrated by William Hope?

Not on this book.

What could James Carol have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Loved james carol 's broken dolls as it was pacy and gripping, This story dragged and dragged. Far too much time spent on the emotional anxst of the casual side kick who we are unlikely to come across again.Slow, boring , very disappointing.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of William Hope?

He did ok with the material he had . The character or the reader come across as smug and know it all but without the balancing out charm or charisma of say a know it all like Sherlock Holmes.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Very very disappointed. I had Pre ordered it off the back of broken dolls. Happy to change locations and contexts but the plot and characters were weak.

Any additional comments?

A weak book , such a shame after waiting for it .
