About this listen
If you had to choose between your life and your dreams, would you ever wake up?
Alan Campbell thought he'd gotten his dream job working on a revolutionary VRMMORPG with Osmark Technologies, until the project was canceled. He has one weekend to dive into an untested world full of intrigue, violence, and corruption to prove that Viridian Gate Online works, but the AIs running the game have their own plans for his soul.
Set a year before the events of Viridian Gate Online: Cataclysm, Viridian Gate Online: Nomad Soul takes you back to when VGO was just a game, or so it seemed.
©2019 James A. Hunter and Shadow Alley Press, Inc. (P)2019 Tantorlove the multilayered plot, the characters are very engaging and the world building is excellent.
props to the narrator too - he really brings it all to life.
all in all I am eager to dive into the next book in the series

That said you don't need to do anything original to be a good book, and this is pretty damn solid. One thing the book has going for it is that Viridian Gate is the kind of MMO I'd absolutely love to play, but there's no way it would actually be popular because it doesn't seem to be just a themepark made for people who care about nothing other than instant gratification, and those people are the majority of modern MMORPG playerbase.
I don't really want to spoil anything more on that front because experiencing that is basically the best thing going on here. Characters are all pretty solid too but nothing to write home about.
This is like a perfect 3/5 book, even comes with a twist that kinda comes out of nowhere without any warning and just sort of happens, just like most 3/5 books.
It's in the plus catalogue and it's just 11 hours long, give it a listen if you're at all into the genre.
Quite refreshing but unoriginal take on the genre

This book is written by that weird guy in HR who thinks he's smarter than everyone else and can't understand why he's not the CEO of the company.
He's written a book full of nothing. I'm several hours in and so far he's had a lot of diatribes about being the cool HR guy who doesn't have a specific role (and thus is mysterious) but just "talks" to people. Wow fun. In the game (when he finally pops in) he has so far hung out with a beggar and written a lot of exposition on the lamest, edgiest AI gods you can possibly imagine.
Oh and it's a massive big epic world, but everything revolves around like ten guys so it's chill.
The weird guy from HR writes a "LitRPG"
