About this listen

A young man who has improbably escaped death twice reveals his secret in a spine-tingling short story by New York Times bestselling author Joe Hill.

Martin Lorensen is a twenty-three-year-old counselor for disturbed teenagers. He’s bright, compassionate, attractive, and outgoing. He’s also—and this is the most interesting thing—not dead. Martin has improbably survived not one but two deadly disasters that claimed dozens of lives. The kid is riding one hell of a lucky streak. Two federal agents think there is something darker at play. Now that they’ve arranged to interview Martin, they want answers. Martin is ready to share everything he knows. One thing is for certain: when it comes to escaping death, luck doesn’t figure into it at all.

This was a really excellent short thriller story with fantastical elements. I really enjoyed the concept of this book, and it definitely had me hooked. I just really wish there was more of it and that we got a bit more of a backstory, but other than that it was great! I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve read by Joe Hill so far, such witty and addictive writing. Can’t wait to read more! Performance was excellent too!

Great little thiller!

I have read everything by both of the King's and while Stephen King's stories become worse and worse, Joe King's gets better. This is great, because Stephen King is hands down my favourite author and as he's getting on, in age, Joe can carry on his legacy.

Very good short.... worthy of his Dad's approval

I think that Joe Hill is excellent. He’s not quite a good as his dad, Stephen King, but he’s a really talented writer and with Ushers created something chilling and intense.

Really good short story

Short story, Joe King does it again, it’s a twist in the tale story very spooky.
