Ludwig hat ein Monsterproblem! Denn scheinbar stammt das Ungeheuer, das er in einer Mülltonne gefunden hat und ihn ständig "Mama" nennt, aus einem Labor, und fiese Wissenschaftler sind hinter ihm her. Ludwig will herausfinden, welche dunklen Machenschaften dahinterstecken, und beginnt kurzerhand ein Praktikum in besagtem Labor. Währenddessen kümmert sich seine Schwester Carla um das Ungeheuer, das sich eine miese Erkältung zugezogen hat. Es hustet und rotzt und schnieft - und braucht ganz dringend eine Monstermedizin. Aber wie soll man so ein Ungeheuer geheim halten, wenn es eine grüne Schleimspur der Verwüstung hinter sich herzieht?
