It should be noted that this version isn’t the same as the physical book and there are whole paragraphs missing (what’s the worst is that the paragraphs that actually add context and are intellectually worthwhile aren’t included leaving mainly the controversial stuff)

Henry Miller is the most important author to ever exist. He tells a story in a way no other author has done in the whole of history. I appreciate the rawness of his writing and that he is not scared to say certain things. The person reading also did a beautiful job.

My first Henry Miller read and I am now a huge fan of his beautifully obscene writing. So masterful, mesmerising and ahead of its time. This is a classic and a must.

I remember first reading this aged about 17 at my Catholic girls school having bought it in WH Smith in Kidderminster of all places...twenty years later and I spotted Ian McShane's beautiful rendition on here. Definitely worth luxuriating over, perhaps with headphones on and not via Alexa. A masterpiece in stunning prose that could have been penned yesterday. The fact it's nearing its centenary, makes it all the more vital, vivid and vivacious....and is still just a little bit naughty....

Ian McShane narrates brilliantly this self-aggrandising little aside by the glans-about-town Henry Miller. Such a spewing forth of wordy semen. Such unabashed misogyny, loathing and existential pointlessness.
