About this listen

The Greatcoats - legendary heroes, arbiters of justice...or notorious traitors?

The Greatcoats are travelling magistrates bringing justice to all...or at least they were, before they watched the Dukes impale their King's head on a spike.

Now the land's heroes are reviled as traitors, their Greatcoats in tatters. Facio, Kest and Brasti have been reduced to working as mercenaries, but when they find their employer dead - and are forced to watch as the killer plants evidence framing them for the murder - they realise things are about to get even worse.

For the royal conspiracy that began with overthrowing an idealistic young king is spreading to Rijou, the most corrupt city in the land, and the life of a young girl hangs in the balance.

When every noble is a tyrant and every knight is a thug, the only thing you can really trust is a traitor's blade.

Excellent really enjoyed the story. Well read and portrayed. Bit different from the usual run of the mill stories. Look forward to listening to the next book.

I read this book a while ago and purchased it because I enjoyed listening to the malevolent seven and other books by the same narrator. I love the humour in de Castell’s stories.

Excellent narration of a great story

I liked the idea of the saints and gods a lot, some really great world building.
took me a while to get behind the characters but once I had I really enjoyed and will definitely be listening to the rest of the series.

looking for books for fill the gap until the end of the Kingkiller Chronicles, and this certainly has delivered. superb characters, funny, logical plotting (no GoT let down here) absolutely gripped throughout, great narration.

I'd never heard of these books or the author before stumbling across them on Audible. I'd been on the lookout for new fantasy tales after exhausting all books by Brendan Sanderson, Robin Hobb, Brent Weeks, Jim Butcher, Joe Abercrombie, Brian McClellan, and as many other fantasy stories as I could get my hands on.

So when I picked up these books, I was hoping for the next series to hold my attention over the course of many weeks. I particularly enjoyed the story of the Greatcoats, and their ode to the swashbuckling greats. I've now finished all 4, and barely put them down until the whole tale was done.

I look forward to reading more by Sebastian de Castell in the future.

Absolutely amazing

Sebastien de Castell's name, and greatcoats series is whispered in writing circles almost reverentially, despite this, it's the first time I have had a chance to read it and I instantly see why. humour laces every level of this book which became obvious in the dedication to his mother at the start. the description of "the three musketeers meets high fantasy" is apt but his dry wit suits well. added to this, the choice of joe Jameson for the voice was in my humble opinion, perfect

simply brilliant

the narrator makes it hard to get into the book at first, but if you bear with him a few chapters you get a sense of his rythm and start to understand why he's such a great fit for the book. I am not sure if I can compliment the story and performance enough, it builds itself up in such a majestic yet subtle style before I realized it. I was stuck with the books in my ear even when I typically don't listen to audiobooks.

I'm not sure if I can describe it with words
