About this listen

The enthralling sequel to Barbara Taylor Bradford’s universally loved novels, A Woman of Substance and Hold The Dream.

Set in Yorkshire, Hong Kong and America, this remarkable novel continues the story of an unorthodox and endlessly fascinating family. As the spirit of Emma Harte lives on in her granddaughter, Paula O’Neill, an engrossing drama is played out in the glamorous arena of the wealthy and privileged, underscored by a cut-throat world of jealousy and treachery.

Paula must act with daring and courage to preserve her formidable grandmother’s glittering empire from unscrupulous enemies – so that Emma’s precious dream lives on for the next generation…

A satisfying conclusion to the Emma Harte Trilogy!

I much enjoyed how this family saga was further developed with new characters and the continuing lives of this intertwined family. The reading of it was very professional and satisfying.

Good but not as good as the first two

Worth listening to it, but keep expectations kinda low...read for character development. 3.5 stars

Too many inconsistencies

I just didn’t enjoy this as much as the first two and hated the stilted performance.

A real disappointment after the first two

Far less engaging. Characters entitled. Pointless and endless descriptions of designer names and labels that added nothing to the story. A real disappointment after the first two. I’m invested now - so really hoping it picks up and the next ones are better!!

Such a disappointment

I loved reading a woman of substance, hold the dream was a bit “meh” but to be the best was truly awful, the story line was drawn out and dull. I felt compelled to read the last two books to complete the trilogy but really wish I hadn’t bothered.

1st book ok goes downhill from there

When I read a book I long to know what happens to the characters. I listened to this whole series just because A women of substance was so iconic. The first two books are OK, but the author doesn't seem to know her characters, there are so many mistakes and inconsistencies I find myself listening for them instead of enjoying the story. it gets a little repetitive too, all the women glide across the room. I didn't download or listen to the last book I just couldn't cope! I have never read anything else by this author . I wish I had just left it at the 1st really
