The sovereign, Mearlan IV, wants him to Walk back 14 years to prevent a devastating war that will destroy all of Islevale. Even though the journey will double Tobias' age, he agrees.

But when he arrives, he discovers that Mearlan has already been assassinated, and his court, destroyed. The only survivor is the infant princess, Sofya. Still a boy inside his newly adult body, Tobias must find a way to protect the princess from assassins and build himself a future...in the past.

The story is intriguing and engaging and it is so well written and performed.
There isn’t room to explain everything that is done well, but an example where even good authors sometimes fail: D. B. Jackson is able to deftly weave in background or context into the thoughts of the characters so that it feels natural and flows perfectly within the story.
The performance is also spectacular with the different characters having not only distinct accents and tone, but their voices change as they age or after particular experiences.
Highly recommended and I am eagerly waiting for the next volume.
