About this listen

The first book in USA Today best-selling author Molly Harper’s dazzling new Moonshadow Cove trilogy, simmering with magical mayhem, spicy romance, and laugh-out-loud humor!

As the youngest of three sea witch sisters, Linney Seaworth lives a secluded existence in her family’s secret cottage on Moonshadow Cove, the far side of Starfall Point. Together, the Seaworths wield magic derived from the surrounding waters to keep the human population safe from paranormal threats. But Linney has always longed for a more adventurous life ... which is exactly what she gets when handsome newcomer Gray Brockhurst shows up on the Island.

Gray just inherited one of Starfall’s oldest ghost tour companies. Even though he’s never believed in ghosts, he’s continuing the family business to honor his late grandfather, who relished in sharing the island’s lore. But Gray is thrown for a loop when a lovely local interrupts his tour and changes his entire world view. Apparently, ghosts are all too real, and he’s been offending them with inaccurate stories during his “performances.”

But soon the Seaworths face a bigger problem: A deadly enemy has been unleashed, and it’s unlike anything they’ve ever encountered. As Linney and Gray work together to stop it, the attraction brewing between them just might be the most powerful magic of all.

If you are a fan of Molly Harper, you know what you’re getting, sassy strong women, at least one protagonist going No Contact with their family (Btw is anyone else wondering about Harper’s childhood? ) a kidnapping and sweet treats which where actually in short supply here.
I’m not sure how I feel expanding on Starfall mythology but the story was okay, I would have like the Seaworths to meet all of the Shadow Coven but there are more books to come I suppose.
Fun, sweet if slightly predictable a good read all around.

I generally enjoy Molly Harper as the stories are relaxed and funny with a fun supernatural flavour.

This one seems a bit disjointed, it says it's the first book in a new series but everything it references seems to have already happened 'off screen'. This includes the main characters' first meeting which we find out about in a flashback, as well as the main family drama which is all in the past, and the central conflict between the protagonists and the villain which also happened years ago. This makes the story seem a bit unfocused.

There's a fun supporting cast of ghosts and side characters but we don't get much time with them so I hope their stories get fleshed out a bit in later books. There's a bit of lowstakes drama at the end and seems to be hinting at a sequel so will be interesting to see how this world develops.

The female narrator is wonderful but the male narrator sounds angry or dramatic at all times even when not much is happening which can be a bit distracting.

Good narration - some fun characters but confusing plotline and hard to care about action overall.

Easy to get lost

I liked the story and will want to hear the second book when it comes out.
I liked Gray’s back story and his need to return to the bay. The relationship between Linney and Gray is sweet.

The story from the two main character’s perspective I liked very much.

I got about 1/3 of the way through. I couldn't deal with the very painfully American voices and the overuse of the town name. Slow story and a bit boring.

DNF

The story was slow and a bit jumpy… not spicy romance though which is the label I found it under.

Good narrative
