About this listen

What is masculinity? Ask 10 men, and you'll get ten vague, conflicting answers. Unlike any book of its kind, The Way of Men offers a simple, straightforward answer - without getting bogged down in religion, morality, or politics. It's a guide for understanding who men have been and the challenges men face today. The Way of Men captures the silent, stifling rage of men everywhere who find themselves at odds with the overregulated, overcivilized, politically correct modern world. If you've ever closed your eyes and wished for one day as a lion, this book is for you.

Great book in a time where the future of men is under attack from all sides. A must read/listen by every man out there.

I'm not far in but already I've been exposed to some interesting ideas and thought 'yes, this is exactly right'. Jack has a good voice for narration but i kinda wonder if he struggles a bit with reading as he only reads about 5 words at a time lol

Seems good, useful

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Strength, courage, mastery and honour: I completely agree that these are attributes that modern men aspire to, but the perspective on these is fairly outdated. Although I would change strength for power, these are all generally attributes that are important to develop independence and self sufficiency. It is at this point I have mixed feelings on the overall message of the book: yes, modern men do need to think about and develop these as they develop, BUT no, in modern western society being able to compete is a universal need not just a male one. Women need these attributes as well as men; these are a selection of important attributes for becoming a functional adult and in becoming men (as adult males).

Worth a listen to reflect on the importance of self sufficiency and what it means in the modern world, however it's worth doing so with the understanding that whether your talking about ancient Rome, the Seventeenth century, or even the early 20th century; gender roles have shifted hugely especially economically.

TL:DR - Strength, courage, mastery and honour are all important in competition, but competition is no longer specific to men. However, these are useful concepts for many men to think of and develop.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jack Donovan? Why or why not?

Possibly, it would be interesting to see if he is maintains his perspectives over time.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jack Donovan’s performances?

Jack Donovan's reading was decent, but the editing was very choppy in places which definitely was an injustice to Donovan's reading.

Do you think The Way of Men needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Does it need a follow up? Not inherently, but any extra works helping men develop healthy masculinity is positive.

Close, but outdated.

Good book with some interesting insights. Some of them whilst useful can be interpreted at points as extreme or would need further understanding of the subject at first listen.

Jack Donovan reads well, I'd suggest listening however at 1.10x speed.

Decent Book

A must read for every man. A clear presentation of how society and civilisation has damaged Man's identity and lead to disconnection from our core natures to the detriment of men and women

a must read for every man.
