About this listen

A gripping, pulse-pounding DI Barton thriller from the bestselling Ross Greenwood.

After three years behind a desk, Inspector John Barton wonders if he’s still got what it takes.

An opportunity arises to return to Major Crimes, so he jumps at it, after all he’s been around the block a few times. When he and his team are called in to investigate an attempted murder which seems to be linked to the case of a missing child, Barton is immediately thrust back into the life of a detective – early mornings, late nights and endless pressure to get to the truth.

Then a man dies.

Something deadly is going on behind the high walls and imposing gates of the mansions in the sleepy village of Castor. The locals are keeping each other’s secrets and if Barton doesn’t find out why soon, the bodies will start mounting up.

The Village Killer knows who’s next, and the clock is ticking…

The book all Ross Greenwood fans have been waiting for - Barton is Back! Ross Greenwood returns to his bestselling series, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham and Ian Rankin.

Great to have DI Barton back

Brilliant to have Barton back after a long wait. Great storyline and I love that it is more than just murder investigation, its about people regardless of which side they tread.

Narration is excellent as always by David Thorpe.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Welcome back Barton

It was so nice to have Barton & the Gang back again. Such good humour between the characters as they navigate their changes in life while investigating serious crimes.
Story was good and it’s still written where you get to hear the different points of view including from the killer.
Always fabulous when Holly ensures everyone gathers for Christmas leaving no one alone.
Great to still have David Thorpe narrating.

So nice to have Barton back!

It is almost like meeting a family friend - after all the Barton series his family and colleagues have become so familiar that it is like living with them. Such a good humour, dialogues and episodes - I hope that Barton series shall be continued and he does not become too old to retire :)

Barton

I've missed Barton & the gang. There's a lot of story going on and it's great. Winning combination of author and narrator.

Great Story

Having grown up in Peterborough, I enjoyed to local references. Also, it's good to read a detective story which avoids the old trope of the alcoholic, failed father Inspector who can't hold a marriage together,

A brilliant return of old friend and familiar characters 😄

I had forgotten how much I enjoy these novels. These stories are interesting and make you keep reading to the conclusion. Despite the subject matter the delightfully warm characters and their humor make for a warm atmosphere. Like a comfy reaquaintce with old friends - more please.
