About this listen
‘An ingenious plot, a captivating cast of character, and twists and turns that kept me guessing to the last page, loved it!’ Amanda Reynolds
What happens when your worst nightmare comes true?
One spring morning, a bus full of children and their teachers from a Cotswolds primary school head off on a much-anticipated day trip.
But as night falls and the well-heeled parents – one or two of them famous, as well as wealthy – wait at the school to collect their weary offspring, it soon becomes clear that something has gone very wrong.
The children and their teachers simply do not come back.
What’s happened doesn’t seem possible.
How can an entire class of children simply vanish?

Original idea
An original storyline with a few twists to keep you guessing, quite a few characters which meant they aren’t quite so memorable and i had to re listen to some parts.Sometimes a bit descriptive in parts but i liked that loose ends were tied up at the end.enjoyable listen, good narration

Ludicrous
What on earth was that all about? Ludicrous plot full of huge holes. Narrator was good though.

Brilliant!
Fantastic story, great narration. I really got into this and couldn’t wait for a spare moment to listen. Only now discovered this author and will be looking out for more of her books.

Another great mystery
On the whole a great book, with unusual twists. A little slow in places, but really very good

Performances good but
Although the performances were good and I was engrossed for a lot of the book, the plot line was far fetched - just not credible for me.

Good enough!
This novel is good enough to keep me listening and I’m not one to continue with a book I don’t like. That said, it was necessary at times to suspend disbelief at some silly parts. The narrator was good, not great, but good.

Interesting idea, but could have been better
I was definitely drawn by the blurb of this book, but was a bit disappointed by the quality of the writing. The story felt, at times, quite obvious, and at others, quite unlikely.
I felt that the author needed to have researched in greater detail how thoroughly schools actually have to plan school trips, because the arrangements were far too slapdash to be realistic, and I found the parts about how the school communicated with the parents to be very inaccurate.
Anyone with any connection to the police force is likely to have similar qualms about the decisions of the police and the information shared with the parents throughout the story.
I have to say though, that the whole reason for the kidnapping was a big letdown. The fact that the perpetrator/s had held the grudge and planned it for such a long time, led me to believe that the reason was going to be something really unexpected, but in fact it was not.
It just didn’t seem like any of the secrets that were revealed through the course of the book would be of interest to the world around them, and would certainly not be fuel for blackmail.
The narrator did a good job, but was so nasal, that it irritated me.
Overall, I wanted to enjoy the book more than I actually did. It was good in places, and I liked that it was told from the POV of characters in different ‘roles’ in the book, but it was just too unlikely and underdeveloped for me.
