About this listen

Some people die alone and someone has to clean what's left behind - houses, bodies, memories and old, dark secrets.

Grace McGill is an insular, friendless woman, living in Glasgow in her 30s. She has her beloved cat, and she has her own business - deep cleaning the houses of Undiscovereds. People who die alone and stay that way until they are found weeks, sometimes months, later.

While working in the home of a man named Tommy Agnew, her suspicions are aroused by a hidden photograph and a stack of newspapers, all from the same date over many, many years.

Grace can't get the mysterious life and sad death of Tommy Agnew out of her head, and she soon begins an investigation that could cost her her life. The past has stayed buried for many years already, but Grace has never been one to brush things under the carpet....

A stand-out novel with a unique narrative voice and an unguessable mystery. You are guaranteed to remember Grace McGill.

Such a great read. A very unique concept and a message that will stay with me long after I finished it. One of the best books I have listened to, and I would highly recommend. As a Scot, i loved the Glasgow setting, the language used and I absolutely loved the narrator. She really did a great job, and enhanced my enjoyment of the novel with her talent to make each character easily identifiable. I found the book, sad, funny, poignant and tragic. Definitely a book that made me think about society, morality, law, order and retribution.

Loved everything about this fab book

Enjoyed this book.
I enjoyed the first half better than second.
Almost felt disappointed in Grace when I realised where it was leading.
However an excellent read

An unusual narrative for the genre. Story told well by the author. Actually, told very well, because I continued to listen despite the appalling narration. A narrator has one thing to do: read out loud, well. Do these studios have no QC at all? Mispronouncing words like 'Formica', stumbling over literally every sentence in the entire book. Apparently blindsided by the appearance of consonants in words. Unaware that sentences may have multiple clauses. Everything delivered in slurred 6 syllable phrases. I get so angry about this stuff, because an OK book read well is a joy. A good book read well can change your perspective. A book, like this, read like a six year old reading a menu, damages the author's credibility. Anyway, I enjoyed it despite the narration.

Interesting angle, Year 3 narration

Really unusual story, cleverly done and beautifully voiced. Makes you think about those people who have fallen through the cracks. I highly recommend this book

Clever and thought provoking

Such a great listen, brilliant unusual story with believable characters and plot, a refreshing change form the usual hyped up murder suspense novels. The narrator was perfect for it.

Really enjoyed this!

Enjoyed this read and finished it within 24 hours of starting it. Unexpected twists and turns, good characterisation and well read.

Thoroughly enjoyed

This was really well narrated. I found the narrator’s voice comforting and really helped me follow the story. The ending was not what I initially expected. I really enjoyed it!

Interesting story

I am Glaswegian and I loved all the descriptions of all the places that Grace visits since I ve been away for almost 60 years. It’s a good story and well told.

The twist in the storyline

Set in Glasgow with very realistic descriptions, this most unusual character certainly attracted my attention.
As her life story developed, I was hooked. The characters she met appeared very true to life. The author's own narration helped in this.
After mid way, however I felt less involved and slightly irritated with the slower pace. So glad that I continued as this book finishes really well - I certainly had not predicted the closing chapters. Thank you audible!

A most unusual crime

Enjoyed the bizarre premise of this perfectly narrated story. The cleverly drawn characters & twisty plot hooked me. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of a mystery.
