Good fun, atmospheric and dark- fairly low on splatter

Anytime I read a Larocca book I feel as though I'm about to step into an absolute bloodbath. And The Trees Grew isn't that, not to it's detriment.
Larocca writes really dark and oddly elegant stories that at times stray into the incredibly dark. The themes and setups of his stories are often more violent/ grotesque than the actual content of his stories. which i appreciate, Larocca knows how to create vivid mental imagery and have his stories stick with you. and this doesn't disappoint in that regard
