About this listen

Lara has only one thought when her husband is taken prisoner: I will do whatever it takes to set you free.

A queen now in exile as a traitor, Lara has watched Ithicana be conquered by her own father, helpless to do anything to stop the destruction. But when she learns her husband, Aren, has been captured in battle, Lara knows there is only one reason her father is keeping him alive: as bait for his traitorous daughter.

And it is bait she fully intends to take.

Risking her life to the Tempest Seas, Lara returns to Ithicana with a plan not only to free its king, but for liberating the Bridge Kingdom from her father’s clutches using his own weapons: the sisters whose lives she spared.

But as Lara and her companions formulate a plan to free Aren from her father’s palace, they soon discover that while it is easy to get in, it will be quite another thing to get Aren, and themselves, back out. Not only is the palace inescapable, there are more players in the game than Lara ever realized, enemies and allies switching sides in the fight for crowns, kingdoms, and bridges. But her greatest adversary of all might be the very man she’s trying to free - the husband she betrayed.

With everything she loves in jeopardy, Lara must decide who - and what - she is fighting for: her kingdom, her husband, or for herself.

The chapters in this book are stupid short already, I don't need ti hear war drums every 3 seconds to remind me of that. It is so damn constant and distracting. Everytime a new chapter starts and I hear those dambed drums it pulls me right out of the story. Please for the love of God STOP!

Stop with the damn drums!

The plot really gets moving in this instalment!! The first novel was great but this one was even more enthralling. Fast-paced, new and interesting characters that don’t feel cheap, perfect ending (but could have done with an epilogue haha). I very rarely finish book 2 of duologies but this was an easy seller. Just perfect.

Even more thrilling than the first book

I can't even begin to describe this book 😭😭 I loved everything about it!! The plot, the main characters, the sub characters, the narrators, EVERYTHING!! So beautifully written, you can't help but feel every emotion each of our characters feel as you listen, I was teary eyed, had goosebumps, gasped and so many other feelings that I feel emotionally drained 🤣🤣 I would, however, love to hear about how some of our sub characters got on!! Is Coralynn alive?? What happens to Zara and Herris?? Does Ana go back to Herondale to marry?? What about Lara's sisters?? 😱 I NEED TO KNOW!!! 😭

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G (contains spoilers)

Loved the universe and the characters, the audio book experience was great, but I would have loved a map and some other visual elements to go with the story…

Left me wanting more

This had so many twist and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Aren and Lara had so many challenges to overcome and against the backdrop of warring kingdoms it made their love story feel So much more intense. Great action, great love story, great sequel

Enjoyable sequel

Found the drums at the start of every chapter frustrating but other than that, this was even better than the first. LOVED it!

I loved this! The music between chapters, especially the really short ones was a tad irritating, like the storm noise from book 1 and I don’t really think the male narrator was needed when the female one did the male voices so well and the male didn’t really do the female voices that well, so it seemed a bit pointless but still, the twists in the plot were great and all the way through I couldn’t see how the hell they could end it in a way to allow her back into the people’s hearts or the kingdom but the way it ended was perfect!

So good!
