The Tourist by #RobertDickinson published by @HachetteAudio. I liked this book a lot. I read it a lot of times but that's mostly because I needed to understand what the fuck it was all about. On my fourth attempt, I got it. It was a literary feat of high calibre complexity.

⚠️SPOILER ALERT⚠️This book contains plots that cross timelines with times paradoxes left open to interpretation. The box 📦 is completely irrelevant to the path of the time-traveller, and is a red herring. Instead focus on the event that leads up to MC Spence losing his foot.

The writing was great. However, @PeterKennyVoice was even better. He did a brilliant job providing the voiceover work. All characters were brought to life but my favourite was Leigh, the way she sings Oz's 'follow the yellowbrick road,' it's what made me fall in❤️ love with her.

I would recommend this book for any readers who want a challenge with a high literary skill. It is not for the feint hearted. For those who do read this: The Tourist who turns up at the end when Spence is dying. His last thoughts of the opera. Why? Tell me.

Need a mind-blowing paradox? I Noah guy

Lots of interesting ideas around time travel, introduced not by bald explanations but implied by the characters and story. Kept me hungry right to the last minute.
The narrator did an excellent job of voicing the multiple characters (some speaking in first person).
Overall very glad to have listened (guardian review) and eager for more from the author

What would have made The Tourist better?

I'm sure the author is highly talented but not at this genre. It is a well written book and the small sub-plots are entertaining but the main plot is impossible to follow.

What was most disappointing about Robert Dickinson’s story?

The actual plot. The back and forth of time travel impose a real challenge for the author and the narrator. Neither succeed in making a complex story easy to follow.

What didn’t you like about Peter Kenny’s performance?

The characters were too close together. It was not easy to tell them apart.

None.

There was so much left up to the reader to do that it felt like an academic exercise on a really poor work. The single worst book I've ever bought from Audible - and I include The Stone Man in that, which is saying something.

The Tourist, by Robert Dickinson, is a brilliant work of science-fiction and a multilayered critique of our beloved fascinations. The Tourist is a sui generis novel indeed.
