Brilliantly entertaining narration

With my tendency to loose interest in long stories, I bought this 26 hour book with little hope of hearing it to the end. What I found was beautifully decorative prose, taking me back in time to a world chivalric diplomacy. The narrator brings the story to life, theatrically portraying each character with distinct voices and a French intonation that added credibility without detracting from accessibilty in the least. I eagerly listened to the end, entertained all the way.

Is it meant to be satire?

This book is not poorly written, and yet the tone is just off and the narration keep suggesting that this is satire in critique of the French aristocracy and monarchy.

D'Artagnan cause half of his problems through his temper, the intrigue he begins is by dipping his nose into someone else's pie. Porthos is a loud braggart, Aramis keeps saying he rather be a priest. Athos is the only serious character in the party.

The great villain Richileu is just a petty misogynist, the king is a spoiled manchild, and Milady de Winters is largely acting through self-persevation.

The narrator is most excellent however.

Really enjoying the Dumas/Homewood partnership. Excellent narration of a classic. Reccomended. Worth a credit.

Most enjoyable

Brilliantly narrated by Bill Homewood.
No wonder this book is now a classic.. the characters are perfectly drawn in the minds eye , and the drama unfolds at a perfect pace. Milady is a real nasty manipulative and believable character and the heroes go about their duty without an unnecessary air of impudance.
I loved this book but I'm dissappinted Bill Homewood doesn't read the sequel and I'll buy a hard copy and read with his voice in my head.

Great story, distinguishable voices

Great way to get through a classic. Bill Homewood’s normal speaking voice was pleasant, and he gave each character their own voice. However, I did find all the women very whiny and annoying and would have like him to give someone like Milady de Winter a more commanding voice

Would recommend overall though

Adventure romance intrigue its all here!

I have enjoyed this audiobook immensely. Bill Homewood reading skills are fenomenal. Story is full of twists and turns and needles to say Alexander Dumas is a legend. Highly recommend it.

A long standing favourite

The story, though old and therefore occasionally a little slow, has everything. Well performed and captivating
