About this listen

Her best friend is dead.

Emma and Ariella, neighbours in one of Sydney’s most exclusive suburbs, appear to have it all—perfect homes, perfect husbands, perfect lives. But they both know dark secrets lurk beneath the surface and shallow waters can’t hide Ariella’s. Now she has been found murdered.

Her daughter filmed the killing.

Not knowing what she’s filmed, Emma’s daughter Kiki innocently uploads footage of Ariella’s brutal death. Emma fears the worst—the killer will know what she and Kiki have seen. Their safe suburban lives no longer exist.

Her husband knows more than he’s revealing.

Emma’s husband Charles forces the family to leave their perfect life and escape on their yacht. His dangerous plan to flee means Emma is trapped and desperately seeking answers. What are they hiding from? What did Ariella have to confess? And who else knows Emma’s own secret?

Her secret isn’t safe and neither is she.

brilliant

As a debut novel Holly Craig's writing had me hooked from the first chapter.
read it in one sitting as I had to find out what happened. Narration was clear and read brilliantly. looking forward to the next one.

I didn’t like the main character

I wanted to like this book but gave up half way through. The main character is just annoying, the other characters are very shallow (pun intended), the story isn’t progressing very well. It’s just meh. Wasted 5 hours on this.

Not bad for a first novel

Overall I think this was quite a good book, probably overlong if I'm being honest and the ending was rather far fetched. The main character was believable but quite irritating which may well have been the author's intention. I suspect that if I'd actually read this book I probably wouldn't have finished it but it was a good accompaniment to my walks to and from work. The narrator was okay certainly better than some I've endured but I don't think I'll be choosing any more books on the basis that they're narrating. One really annoying but inconsequential thing, why did the author decide to entitle what seemed like about twenty consecutive chapters 'Now' in the second half of the book?

Well worth downloading!

I did enjoy this book. The twists, the turns, the who really are the bad guys and are they going to make keeps you listening.

Some parts are perhaps a little far fetched but there’s no denying that I found myself listening whenever I could.

I think I personally would have liked a big twist at the end. I thought there was going to be a big reveal about one particular character that never came.

Overall though it’s a great pacy listen.

Unputdownable!

When I read the synopsis for this book I immediately thought it wasn’t for me. However, I downloaded it, by mistake actually, and thought I’d better just read it. Boy did I get a surprise, it turned out to be one of the best thrillers I have ever read. It’s narrated purely from a woman’s point of view, detailing her daily life which is somewhat privileged. Then, very subtly everything changes and this woman finds herself and her children are in grave danger but instead of lying down to it finds buckets of courage to protect herself and her children from the danger. Totally different from the sloppy romances usually written for women though there is romance too and a very good story. It’s a rollercoaster of a story and a must read.

A great read

A great read with a good pace. Slightly predictable but a thriller nonetheless, really enjoyable.
