Really enjoyed this book it was quite a listen a good intriguing storyline will look for more in the series, narration was very good and added depth to the characters

Bit schlocky, but enjoyable shlock. Enjoyed listening when not playing Batman or watching Batman: The Animated Series. Some might say this is OTT. I say these are words, because this is called speaking.

The love story

I've been listening to this on and off over a few months. It's a nice, easy listen. Chapters are short and can take plenty of breaks.
As for the story, be warned that this is not the Shadow from the pulps. They do mention the pulps, but as a fictional representation of the character in this book. they even mentioned batman, which made me chuckle a bit, even though it was ridiculous.
However, they've taken some liberties with the character, which i felt may not stand well with some fans.
However, i stuck with it, and i felt it came to a satisfying conclusion. i will probably look forward to the next book.
As for the narration, they had done a really good job with this.

Crushingly disappointing. I thoroughly enjoyed the new Doc Savage book and went in with high hopes for this one, sadly this was a dire and cringe worthy slog. what made the Shadow of the pulps so glorious is tossed aside in favour of this strangely toothless plod. Plot contrivances abound, as the Shadow dispenses with his pulp garb, and his power to cloud the minds of men, which are supplemented by new superhero style powers like shooting fireballs out of his hands and taking the form of animals. The shame is it starts well with Cranston placed in suspended animation and waking up in a future world controlled by Shiwan Khan but that's the best of it. the Shadow's old network is ignored and the introduction of a sassy, street smart, scooter riding teenager with similar powers to the Shadow is cringe worthy and awful. Khan's plan is ridiculous and is revealed in such a cak handed manner that you'll find yourself laughing out loud.

I've been a fan of the shadow ever since I was a kid but this was not it. I would have liked it if they brought his character to 2021 and then modernised it slightly for a new audience but taking him into a dystopian future with very little of his originality left, makes you wonder why call this the shadow at all? You might as well create a brand new character if he is going to be this different from the original. The story also does not explain his powers very well or the history so those new to the shadow get little or no background at all. This could have been a great new modernisation of an old classic but it feels nothing more than a cheap distopian novel which itself wasn't even that great of a story. I'd recommend checking out the 1992 the shadow movie though which was one of my favourites growing up.

Oh dear! Was looking forward to this one as a massive fan of The Shadow pulp character - this was an absolute travesty! They could not have done a better job of destroying a little remembered but much loved character if they had tried. If you have any affection for the Shadow, or even if you just like books that don't read as though they were written by a barely literate 12 year old, please avoid this at all costs!
