About this listen

Britain's leading guru looks to the future. Charles Handy is one of the giants of contemporary thought. His books on management - including Understanding Organizations and Gods of Management - have changed the way we view business. His work on broader issues and trends - such as Beyond Certainty - has changed the way we view society.

In The Second Curve, Handy builds on a life's work to glimpse into the future and see what challenges and opportunities lie ahead. He looks at current trends in capitalism and asks whether it is a sustainable system. He explores the dangers of a society built on credit. He challenges the myth that remorseless growth is essential. He even asks whether we should rethink our roles in life – as students, parents, workers, and voters – and what the aims of an ideal society of the future should be.

Provocative and thoughtful as ever, he sets out the questions we all need to ask ourselves - and points us in the direction of some of the answers.

I’ve long been an admirer of Charles Handy’s thinking and this book of fifteen essays shows that Handy, in his 80s now, still has his finger on the pulse of what is and what should be.
Great to listen to on journeys to work but there’s so much in these essays I’m probably going to have to listen again and again to get the fullness from them.

Excellent book of essays

As an ex-business school professor author you might be surprised to learn that Handy examines the fundamental meaning of life, work and the future of society. His eloquent essays examine the potential for quantum leaps forward in performance for individuals and organisations to build a better future without getting stuck in the current system. Prescient and necessary. 21st century society desperately needs a second curve to solve the environmental and social crisis that threatens to stunt the future of humanity. A good man sets out some of the ideas that might serve as the triggers for the societal second curve that will take us into a much better future.

Thought provoking, challenging and inspirational

Rich deep thought presented easily, concisely and clearly. An ebook seems very appropriate given the theme of the book. Great.

Outstanding reflective thinking

As you would expect of Handy, well thought through and an enjoyable "read". Not as radical as I had hoped. Well read

Very good, but not brilliant

I read it in perfect time for me, to uncluter my mind. One of the best book I read in a long time.

So powerful book.

I've been reading Handy for 40 years, from his first book to this. He has always has an uncanny ability to tap into emerging zeitgeist not be offering "solutions" but by framing great questions. Once we escape the cages of our own preconceptions, the answers are accessible to us. A great addition to the library, and like all his work, repays rereading

A great business philosopher

Great listen. Intelligent and witty arguments. I have over a hundred audio books in my library but this is the first review I've ever written. That's how much I liked it.

Full of insights
