About this listen
A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.
To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.
On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.
As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

"[T]he romance is finely done, with Roberts's trademark banter lighting up the page. Fiona and Simon are the main attraction, but the setting and the supporting characters - with paws and without - provide a vivid backdrop." (Publishers Weekly)
“Search-and-rescue dogs are a focal point of this wonderful tale of love and adventure. Roberts has a marvelous ability to blend in the perfect amounts of character drama, realistic romance and chilling suspense. The result - an unputdownable read! Roberts again proves why her name is synonymous with excellence.” (RT Book Reviews)
“Strong romantic suspense.... The serial killer subplot is not new, as the copycat has been done before, but Nora Roberts makes it seem fresh with her incredible writing skill as she uses the Search and Rescue canines as key elements in the exciting story line. Readers will enjoy Ms. Roberts’ entertaining Puget Sound thriller.” (Midwest Book Review)
Any additional comments?
This book is very easy listening, enough to keep you wanting to get to the end to find out what happens but light enough to be able to concentrate on other things at the same time, pattern knitting for me. I learnt a lot about dog training whilst listening to the book! I have only given 4 stars for the reader because the American accent jarred at first until I got used to it, having said that it was well read.Very enjoyable

Where I came to grief a bit with this audiobook was the narration. Probably because I am a Brit, but when Tanya Eby says the name ‘Perry’, it sounds like ‘Harry’ to me. It took a while to realise she was saying ‘Perry’, but even when I knew, it still sounded like ‘Harry.’ And I have the Kindle version of the book, so I double-checked. A small niggle, yes, but one which grew annoying. It is almost as if she is swallowing the word.
Excellent story. Narrator okay, not always clear

What did you like most about The Search?
It was unusual for a murder mystery insofar as the context was a pleasant story of a strong woman running her own business and falling for a man she met in the course of it. The main characters were exceptionally well drawn and even the secondary characters were engaging. In the early stages of the book, the sinister tale of a psychopath flicks in and out, building until that aspect overtakes the characters the listener/reader has come to know so well. What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The narration was first class.Any additional comments?
Some reviewers have said this book would be good for those who like dogs. I think that risks suggesting its just 'okay'. This is far from the case. I really struggled to put it down. I was compelled to set aside time to listen instead of engaging in my normal routine. It is a 15 hour audio book and I finished it in two days.I Loved This Book!
