About this listen
It has been two weeks, and now Ruby is totally alone. People weren’t prepared for the rain, got caught out in it, didn’t realise that you couldn’t drink water from the taps either. Even a drip of rain would infect your blood and eat you from the inside out. Ruby sets off on a journey that will take her the length of the country - surviving in the only way she knows how.

However I found the story was really interesting and wanted to continue to find out what would happen when she found the next survivor. Am going to continue onto the next book as curious what will happen next to Ruby. It is a good story to read, if you can ignore the main characters sometimes silly decisions. xxxx

What made the experience of listening to The Rain the most enjoyable?
There was never a dull moment, you just had to keep reading. What does Avita Jay bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
A voice. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was a long book but didn't seem like it.Any additional comments?
It's an apocalyptic book from the view of a 15 year old girl, with teenage problems. It's fun, sad, exciting & makes you think too.
A very butterfly good book. Very entertaining

Where does The Rain rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I love this story. Ruby is a typical obnoxious teenager. She is not really a likeable character, but by the end of the book I had grown to love her. Unlike many apocalypse stories, the characters in this story act like you would expect real people to act. What about Avita Jay’s performance did you like?
Avita has a really clear voice. She is very expressive. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Really hard to answer this without spoilers, but several parts of the book were moving, especially when some characters die.Rain storms now scare me!

I agree, most of us would never think about makeup and phones when everyone is dead or dying but being aimed at the younger generation, it is more aimed at the comedic element. Ruby is actually very funny, and although it doesn’t shy away from the reality of a gruesome pandemic, it doesn’t aim for maximum horror like Pandemic novels aimed at adults would.
I would rate this as 4.5 but actually giving it a 5 to try and balance the undeserved low scores.
A decent end of world novel
