Critic reviews

"The dream team delivers big time...Clinton’s insider secrets and Patterson’s storytelling genius make this the political thriller of the decade." (Lee Child)

"I felt like I was right along with the characters for the shocking twists and turns you’ll never guess are coming. Patterson and Clinton have created a truly unique character in their ‘missing’ President. The President Is Missing puts the listener inside the White House and inside the mind of a President grappling with extraordinary circumstances." (Dennis Quaid)

"Yes, The President Is Missing is fiction - it’s a thriller - but James Patterson and I have come up with three of the most frightening days in the history of the presidency. And it could really happen...These days, the seemingly impossible can happen. And it happens so fast. I believe that readers will not soon forget President Jonathan Duncan and his story." (Bill Clinton)

Hmm... disappointed!

I was quite excited by the potential of this book, lots of big names involved, but the end result was disappointing. My main issue was that I found the president boring. He spends too much time pondering & lamenting everything and his internal dialogue is largely tedious. The start is also slow and the impeachment saga leaves me feeling like Clinton is unable to separate his personal frustrations with US politics from this fictional writing. If there is a next time, I hope Patterson can use his red pen a bit more!

Also, Dennis Quaid, who I’m very happy to watch on the screen, does not make a great narrator. His voice is too distinctive and lacks variety. I can see the appeal of using a famous actor, but really the professional narrators are much better! So, I fear his performance was the final nail for me, but ultimately the whole thing was hard work.

If there is a 2nd book, I’ll probably give it a go, but only because I hope they can sharpen it up next time... fingers crossed!

Fantastic Performance

Dennis Quaid and the supporting artists deliver a strong superb performance.

The story could be stronger and the diatribe at the end less but the performance of Quaid outweighs these short comings.

Brilliant Chaos

There's a lot going on but worth sticking with. Listen out for Bill Clinton's voice.

Brilliant story spoilt by the main voice

I loved this book, plenty of false leads and surprising moves . People you love, people you hate, often changing those roles from one to another. This would be a perfect 5 for me but in my opinion the main readers voice is terrible to the point of irritating. Makes you want to clear his throat for him. His voice changes for other characters are poor.

Love the story don’t like the voice

Entertaining

I listened to this whist painting my son's bedroom. An entertaining diversion, but not great literature!

worth getting.. ..but

very good plot and very well told. some of the Male orators character voiced were irritating but overall a good listen and very thought provoking.
however I bought this book because of bill Clinton's input expecting more realism from the political side. Alas this was my forthcoming clearly he wanted to enderlibe his gratitude to the secret service something he did several times.
however it still turned out that the president is the hero beyond all others and the greatest detective. then at the end there is the biggest speech he wished he had given when he was in office.

edge of your seat

I struggle to read books as I tend to fall asleep after a couple of pages hence why I opted for audio books. at first I struggled to get into the story. the narrator was difficult to take seriously and I thought it started slow. but it didn't take long for me to get into it. at one point even shouting with excitement. a fantastic book which I will be recommending.

Fact or Fiction ?

Very good story, although a bit slow to get going. The narrator's efforts at the F.B.I. character was absolutely awful. Why not use a female as in the case of Bach.

Good plot but not a pleasant listen for me

I should have checked the narrator before deciding to listen to this in audible rather than read the hard copy, as the deep and raspy voice disinfect my enjoyment of the book. The plot was interesting and grasped my interest from about 2/3 way in. It felt more like a story that male readers would enjoy more (just generalizing here for a bit!)
