Breaking news: The Pink Hotel is soon being made into a movie…get ahead of the rest and listen to it before you see it!
A seventeen-year-old London girl flies to Los Angeles for the funeral of her mother Lily, from whom she has been estranged since her childhood. Stealing a suitcase of letters, clothes and photographs from her mum's bedroom at the top of a hotel on Venice Beach, the girl spends her summer travelling around Los Angeles, returning love letters and photographs to the men who had known her mother. But as she discovers more about Lily's past and tries to re-enact her life, she comes to question the foundations of her own.

Well Observed

The narration is, however, good and it suits the character of the first person voice who tells the story.
Just missed the mark

Bit slow... But LOVED IT

I really enjoyed the story and became absorbed, feeling all the colours described and the warmth of sun during this adventure. The story is brought to life such that you smell and feel everything.
A nice little break from reality, give it a go.
Twists and turns that you don't expect

Ok story - passed the time

Listless narration

The main problem with the book is that it is painfully boring. There's no story to be told. The mystery is bland.
Although I lost real interest in the story line around the third into the book I persevered and finished it with hope that it would surprise me, that the plot will twist. But the book finished and there was nothing of the sort.
The only thing that kept me going was the beautiful visual language of the book and the narration which was fantastic.
If you don't like teenagers, have a stable life or are a bloke of any age - and you're not a fan of self harm - don't bother reading this book. There is nothing in it for you.
Probably great for treating insomnia, though.
Great package - no story.
