About this listen

Childhood sweethearts William and Mary have been married for sixty years. William is a celebrated surgeon, Mary a devoted wife. Both have a strong sense of right and wrong.

This is what their son, Joe O'Loughlin, has always believed. But when Joe is summoned to the hospital with news that his father has been brutally attacked, his world is turned upside down. Who is the strange woman crying at William's bedside, covered in his blood - a friend, a mistress, a fantasist or a killer?

Against the advice of the police, Joe launches his own investigation. As he learns more, he discovers sides to his father he never knew - and is forcibly reminded that the truth comes at a price.

A mesmerising psychological thriller from one of the greatest crime writers of today, Michael Robotham, the internationally bestselling author of THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS.

Praise for Michael Robotham's writing:

'A nerve-shredding thriller with the heart and soul so often missing from lesser crime and suspense novels. I couldn't stop reading, yet I didn't want Audie's story to end. Robotham is an absolute master' Stephen King on Life or Death©2018 Michael Robotham (P)2018 Hachette Audio UK

Another very good story in this series, these characters are like old friends, Sean Barrett is my favourite narrator with the best voice for story telling

Book 9 in the series takes a very different approach with a more reflective character driven piece.

The story is much closer to home for the star of the show. Recommended for completeness as it provides a lot of the back story what has gone on before

A welcome change of pace with the ever excellent Sean Barrett narrating - he never puts in anything less than a stelalr performance.

A very different approach for book 9

I like the fact that it’s a story about a psychologist, the psychiatric issues, lies, cheating etc all rolled into one.
I like listening to a book and still wondering what’s going to happen next, this book did it for me.
Best book l have listened to all of 2018, highly recommend it

Mind blowing

Another well written novel by Michael Rowbotham, full of intrigue, but as usual it is Sean Barrett's wonderful narration that pulls the book together. He is both comfortable and comforting to listen to. A good pairing

Bill Bloomquist esque.

Good story and well delivered. Enjoyable albeit a little unbelievable in many places. Amazed one man or two men (father and son) could have done so much.

Good Yarn

Micheal Robotham has again produced a great story with twists and turns culminating into a breath holding, nail biting conclusion. Sean Bennett narrates fabulously and for me i now feel the characters have become so real i will actually miss them.

Another great story with held breath moments.

A tense and complex story, beautifully narrated. Robotham is top of the class for psychological thrillers.

A wonderful family intrigue till the end. Such a change not to have Gorey murder scenes in every chapter.

Such observational descriptions
