In John Wyndham’s classic best seller The Day of the Triffids the world has been overwhelmed by killer plants. As the novel ends, Wyndham’s narrator scientist Bill Masen is escaping, with his wife and four-year-old son, to the Isle of Wight where a small colony of survivors is holding out. Simon Clark’s sequel picks up the story 25 years on.

The survivors are safe, for the time being at least, on their island, where they have continued efforts to combat the triffids, while also striving in various ways to build a new civilization. Elsewhere in the world, similar colonies cling to survival, while the triffids persist in their attempts to destroy humanity.

One morning Bill Masen’s son, David, now grown up, wakes to a world plunged into darkness. Now, the triffids have an advantage over humanity.

I've read the books and seen most of the film versions of the Triffids this sequel was true to the story line following on from the original it left.e wanting more I hope they do another installment , realistic sound effects very entertaining well worth the time to listen to Thank you Highly recommended

I thought this was really well written. There were some poor reviews of the book but I thought they were very short sighted.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and the chance to revisit the triffids and the joy at their possible defeat.

The dramatisation was brilliant.

I will listen to it again.

Night of the Triffids took me straight back to reading John Wyndham's original, as well as watching the TV series - still one of my all-time favourites. Simon Clark has the talent, courage and skill to do both the original idea and his sequel justice, and I loved this. I hesitate to call it an audiobook, it is far more than that - the production is superb and fully draws the listener in to the world of the triffids. Due to one thing and another, I struggle to hold 'proper' books, and rely on audiobooks for my literary fixes. Out of the hundreds in my library, this is the clear winner. The script, actors, sound effects and editing put me right there in the action in the same way the TV series did oh so many year ago (eek!)

The best thing of all is that I've only scratched the surface of Simon Clark's books. I can't wait to devour the rest and feel like I've found a treasure trove!

Loved that it continues a great book could of been longer but still a good way to wyle away a rainy day

Short but easy to listen

The book is entertaining enough but the main character does come across as a bit "Austin Powers" as all of the women seem to fall instantly in love with him. Definitely feels like someone's fantasy writing with themselves in mind for the protagonist.

I listened to this book on audible rather than actually reading it and I’m glad I did. Although it is very short, less than 3 hours, it was really well done and was more like listening to a play with a whole cast of actors and sound effects. It really added to the story for me. My only complaint is that it was too short, I felt like the ending was a little rushed and the whole thing could have been made longer and given more depth.

As for the story itself, I like to think that John Wyndham himself wouldn’t have minded this book, the author was faithful to the story that Mr Wyndham had already wonderfully set up and here he adds a new chapter in this new book. It was dark much like the original and the triffids and humanity both show their dangers to us all.

If it had been fleshed out a little more I think I would have given this 5 stars but as it is 4 is not bad. I would recommend this.

To those who are still wary of meteor showers I could not recommend this story because this is all it is, a story and not a great one.

Probably a better alternate history book.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The father and son conversation about the human races future if when machinery Etc can no longer be maintained.

Was The Night of the Triffids worth the listening time?

As a story yes, as a relivant sequel, no. But lovers of the original would be tempted by its title.

Just too many fortunate events for our lead character to survive!
A poor spin off. Now I've listened to it, it would be difficult not to imagine any other evolution pathway. I'll just stick with the original.

I was hoping for a better gripping story following the same suspenseful writing as John Wyndhams story

it was not as good as the day version

This story suffers from three of the failings of Day of the Triffids:
* Blindly "heroic" actions of the main character, devoid of any strategic thinking (you wouldn't have survived without some form of common-sense, surely)
* Main character's tendency to value any women based on whether they are "beautiful" vs "plain"/"ordinary"
* Main character's tendency to fall in love with any woman who touches him

If you enjoy any of the above, you'll enjoy this.

I quite enjoyed this story it was a good novel it had nice music and was a good sequel though its pacing was a little too fast.
