About this listen

You think you know the truth about the people you love. But one discovery can change everything....

Eight-year-old Billy goes missing one day, out flying his kite with his sister, Rose. Two days later he is found dead.

Sixteen years on, Rose still blames herself for Billy's death. How could she have failed to protect her little brother? Rose has never fully recovered from the trauma, and one of the few people she trusts is her neighbour Ronnie, whom she has known all her life. But one day Ronnie falls ill, and Rose goes next door to help him...and what she finds in his attic room turns her world upside down.

Rose thought she knew the truth about what happened to Billy. She thought she knew her neighbour. Now the only thing she knows is that she is in danger....

The Mistake is a completely gripping thriller that will keep you up all night, from the top 10 best-selling author of Blink, Liar and Safe with Me. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train.

Disappointing

I have a real problem with the females in K L Slater's books, they are so spineless and portrayed as helpless victims. Rose in this latest book needed a shake, she was so wet I got totally fed up of the dialogue which was on a loop about her she was disempowered and helpless. I think I will give this author a miss in future unless some more gutsy females are portrayed.

In spite of the characters I thought the narration was good, and I did enjoy the twist at the end.

It was OK

The story is quite good but feels drawn out and repetitive and like others who have commented I got annoyed at the helpless Rose. Although I do imagine that’s what teenage girls are like and it would serve as a good warning book to younger girls. I generally enjoyed the story overall.

The narrator was average, I didn’t like the voice she put on for Gareth Farnham - he was far too obviously not a good guy and that Australian son, Eric - OMG I burst out laughing when he talked it was awful!!

Nevertheless a good story and ending.

Gripping

Gripping, just amazing, as this is my first fiction book, I tent to go with none fiction, I found my self being frustrated at parts, going from present day to past days, having a feeling of wanting to know what happened like in non fiction, but I also found that to be a good thing as well, filling in back sotry and leaving you wanting to find out what happened next.

Predictable and drawn out

Thiis book had a lot of potential and I felt the main character was very believable, until the end.

I guessed the ending just before the 'discovery' and the book dragged out the reveal. We spend most of the time listening to the main characters thoughts and trauma, very little happens and the reveal is basically an accident. Overall it was pretty poor. I wouldn't recommend. I liked the narrator though.

Great story line with believable characters

Great story, fabulous narration. Not my usual genre but it was on offer so I stocked up on books, I'm so glad I got this one as I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story takes you on a heart wrenching journey of people's lives as they try to come to terms with tragedy. And then it gets flipped and what you believe to be true makes you doubt your own conclusion.

I thought it would be all doom and gloom but I was pleasantly surprised, the main character was heart warming and believable just broken on so many levels (aren't we all??).

A book that has an ending which is so satisfying as others can leave you confused and needing answers .
