About this listen

The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories expands upon the epic legend of the dark elf with 12 tales performed by the all-star cast of Felicia Day, Dan Harmon, Greg Grunberg, Tom Felton, Danny Pudi, Sean Astin, Melissa Rauch, Ice-T, Wil Wheaton, Al Yankovic, Michael Chiklis, and David Duchovny!

For years, the Legend of Drizzt has included short stories published in Forgotten Realms anthologies and Dragon magazine. Available here for the first time in audio are all the classic stories by the New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore!

From the startling origin of Drizzt’s panther companion, to the tale of Jarlaxle and Entreri’s first encounter with the dragon sisters, the tales in The Collected Stories enrich this vividly-imagined series by building the world around Drizzt through exploring the backstories of side characters and magical locations.

Critic reviews

"The narrators, all good actors, dramatize the unusual characters with clarity and deliver natural-sounding dialogue. Their even pacing helps listeners track tricky plot twists as the stories build.... Fans of Salvatore's work will be enthralled." ( AudioFile)

So awesome to hear these stories, I had to skip ice t's chapter unfortunately, but I couldn't take the narration XD

Very satisfying

This is a reasonable collection of short stories, some better than others and with mixed levels of narration.

The changes in pace for the stories and narration made it less than ideal for me.

A reasonable collection of short stories

Loved the collection though could have had more about Drizzts, great to get the back story of Guenhwyvar, absolutely love the whole world these are set in.

Great book.

A great collection of stories read and performed by some great (and surprising) names, all of whom are longtime fans of the awesome Drizzt Do'Urden the renegade Drow. Get quickly transported to the fantastical world of Faerun, part of the Forgotten Realms and tag along for an amazing ride full of magic, beasts, adventure and danger!! Enjoy!! Oh, and don't pet the Panther ;-)

Essential for any fans of Drizzt and AD&D

I really enjoyed this collection, having never read any of the Legend of Drizzt novels.

Many of the stories felt like excellent introductions to characters I know to be beloved, and have enough lore to draw me in, without requiring a detailed knowledge of the series.

I'm now going to book one of the legend to start working my way through.

The readers were all excellent in different ways; my only criticism would be that, for me as an Englishman, some of the American pronunciations sounded a little forced, and brought me back out if the story as they jarred. That said, having a host of very familiar voices reading a great collection of stories was fantastic!

Great for new listeners!

Cast performance varies with Dan Harmon and Al Jankovic being stand outs and Ice T unfortunately being a low point (elvish names do not come naturally to him, and a pretty philosophical story does not fit his narrative voice). Similarly, the interest of the stories varies for me as someone not intimately aware of the history of the legend of Drizzt but still fairly engaging throughout

Mixed performances, disconnected stories

Exceptional performances by Felicia Day and Will Wheaton. Not so much from David Duchovney and Ice-T but persisted through them. I failed to understand how some of the stories related to Drizzt, especially the one with the Lich and the dragons. Last story about Wulfgar raised too many questions and wondering if I've missed a story somewhere.

Well worth the listen

What did you like best about this story?

It isn't just one story... it is a short story anthology. I liked hearing about different characters who have appeared in the novels of the Legend of Drizzt. Wil Wheaton was an especially engaging narrator.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The lack of enthusiasm from certain narrators: Ice-T and David Duchovny (sp.?), I'm sorry to say lacked feeling and affected my ability to connect with their respective stories.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A couple of the narrators made me groan in frustration at their lack of feeling. See the previous question

Not Bad... Overall

Great group of narrators bringing to life a fantastic selection of stories, Drizzt is as compelling as ever as is wulfgar, highly recommended to fans of drizzt and newcomers alike
