Much better narration this time

Fiona Shaw's narration is so much better in this book and accompanies a fantastic story. Tears and humour. Now to wait 2 years until the next one :-(

Life

I hope your books make me a better person. You give some great tips on life. I was actually driving to a funeral whilst listening to your book and then driving home. It took four hours there and four hours back. My views of the people at the funeral were always going to be that we cry for ourselves, not for the person that has gone. And how selfish the act of crying is. I cried too! At the funeral and listening to your book. I think your characters have a strange kind of dignity, growing old is not for the faint hearted. X

Amazing story and Narration

We’ll done Richard and congratulations, Fiona.
Unlike some other readers, I loved her narration. It was sensitive and well paced and not “ Shouty” like some other narrators. If some readers perceive this as “ whispering” , then I disagree.
I think it depends on where you listen to it. Maybe in the car or with background noise then it’s a quiet rendition but at night, with a glass of red, it’s perfect.
The story was also wonderful and I hope Richard decides to revisit Coopers Chase at some time in the future.
If not, I look forward to anything else he writes, as I’m sure it will be as enthralling.
Wouldn’t this make a fantastic TV series, or am I just stating the obvious, here?

Another enjoyable Osman, missing Leslie as the narrator

Another great Richard Osman leaving you yearning for the next one. Book four is much more sad and not as many twists as the other three but still very enjoyable.

As many others have stated, Fiona Shaw is a brilliant actress however her northern accents was extremely poor, and the whispering sometimes which was unnecessary. There were times I thought Joyce was Elizabeth.

I wonder if things might have improved if she’d been given proper lessons.

Lesley Manville absolutely is the queen of the Thursday murder club and a hard act to follow for Fiona but she did as good a job as was possible.

Very poor narration

The awful Liverpuddlian accent, the pronunciation of Paraguay and several other errors meant that listening was frustrating. Story was great but narration was too distracting

Amazing continuation of the gang.

The only let down was the narration. The accents confused me.

However the story had me laughing one minute then ugly crying the next.
I can’t recommend these books enough. The Thursday Murder Club are squad goals!

Loved it, it didn’t disappoint as I knew it wouldn’t.

Loved the story and was great to hear all the characters return. Laughed and wept with them. I love how Richard has made these Characters people I really look forward to coming back to and hearing their next story.

The Last devil To Die.

I love these character and Richard has written in a way that I care what happens to them. The expanding story of Stephan the decisions made the tenderness was so moving.
Te story as always had twists and turns and so much intrigue tat kept me guessing. I really, really hope this is not the end of these books and we do not need to wait too long to be reunited. Thank you Richard for bring me joy and a little heart ache.

I love the return to these lovely characters. Enjoyed the plot. As usual from reading books 1-3 I chuckle out loud. Sometimes I think I love Joyce the most, then Bogdan, then Elizabeth then I realise I love them all. I too loved Lesley Manville as narrator but Fiona Shaw has grown on me, so no complaints from me. Will miss not getting a book to keep me going in 2024. Thank you Richard Osman x

I was distracted

Love Fiona Shaw normally and she would have had full marks from me if she hadn't attempted the accents. Surely it is up to the director, or whomever, to gently tell a reader not to do them, unless they're good at it? I found a few of them so very distracting that I was taken out of the storyline. A great shame. Welsh sounded Indian sub-continent, American gently deteriorated into English rather a lot and where was Mitch from? Many readers seem to simply modulate the voice enough, but not too much, and that works better. She managed that with gender and age, so should be the same with accents. The plot was brilliant, as ever, and I'm going to attempt to persuade my adult children to listen to it, if only for how to treat me, and dementia, when the time comes. Cried buckets, but also smiled... lots. Thank you.
