Alaric made me laugh; he was totally oblivious about his feelings for Jean. Jean and Alaric had a strong connection; it hummed nicely through the pages.

A story with plenty of surprises and gripping moments. Absolutely loved it.

I've enjoyed listening to some of the shifter princes find their mates, but Alarick's story is the one I was most excited about. He and Jean already felt like an old married couple because of how comfortable they were around each other, but it was such a joy to see them finally confess their feelings to each other after hundreds of years. Of course, finding a mate couldn't possibly be as straightforward as that. I thought Alarick and Jean would never catch a break from the danger nipping at their feet. As much as I wanted them to get some privacy, it was also really exciting to see where their journey would take them. From revisiting shifter children to reconnecting with their past, Alarick and Jean's adventure was equal parts exciting, heart-pounding, and romantic. Their sweet romance tied up all the loose ends from the previous novellas in an incredibly satisfying, adorable ending that warmed my heart. Greg B's narration has been excellent throughout this series, and I loved the way he brought Jean, Alarick, and the rest of the shifter family to life in this book.

The King and His Vigilant Valet is the third book in the Paranormal Princes series. At least one of the other books in the series should be read before this book in order to get some needed background details. This book was my favorite of the series since it featured a slowburn (over thousands of years!) friends-turned-lovers trope. The slowburn was mostly off page, but when the two main characters finally get together, the emotions and love was stunning. There was a lot of fluff and humor throughout the book along with a thrilling plot that kept the book’s pace moving fast.

The audiobook was narrated by Greg Boudreaux who did a great job with all the character’s voices. I thought his performance was well done and easy to follow along with. I was kept thoroughly entertained and enjoyed the audiobook.

The Story: I really enjoyed this whole series, Alarick and Jean are amazing together. I just love a King that doesn't take himself so seriously but loves deeply. This story was just as entertaining as the other 2 in the series even though the first book is my favorite. (I love Owens tantrums especially in his shifter form). It was great to see the previous book characters and for King Alarick to finally settle the score with his nemesis the squirrel lol.
I really hope this isn't really the end, I want to see a certain Pine Marten get his fox.

The Narration: Greg Bourdreaux again does an amazing job. I did want Jean to have more of an accent but overall it was still good.

While this book wasn't as funny for me as the first two in the series, it still had all the feels that we want from a Charlie Cochet story. Greg Boudreaux's narration was, as usual, excellent, though I was kind of sad that he gave Jean's name the traditional French pronunciation but did not give Jean anything approaching a French accent. Maybe Jean is Canadian? 🤣🤣 At any rate, this was a fitting end to a sweet and funny series, and I think most people will enjoy it, particularly those who are interested in shifter books. But the great thing about Charlie's books is that she makes the romance the most interesting part of the book regardless of the subgenre or trope, so even those who might be on the fence about a shifter series needn't worry about the technicalities too much. She knows what a real romance lover wants, and Greg Boudreaux knows how to bring it to life!

I love Charlie Cochet and was really intrigued by this series. I did not read them in order and still really enjoyed them, although reading them in order probably would have been better. Alarick and Jean have off the charts chemistry and I really enjoyed the trusted friend to lovers story. This was a nice, short, well-rounded listen - light, action-packed, romantic, funny and heartwarming. Greg Boudreaux is fantastic; I’d pretty much one-click anything he narrates and this book is yet another example of his superb skill at bringing characters to life. Highly recommend.

Yes! We finally have the story of King Alaric and his valet, Jean. They've been on the edges of the previous two books, been very entertaining with hints of the possibility of more, at least from Jean to Alaric.
The story dives straight into the action as an assassin has come to kill the king. Jean, of course, comes to his rescue and, as his prince shifter children have to, they basically go on a quest to find the only item that can kill their enemy. Along the way they meet people from the King's past as well as other shifters with a mix of love for the king and not the fondest memories.
This story is a lot of fun. It's amusing how oblivious the king is of Jean's feelings towards him and yet it's clear to all outsiders that the connection goes both ways. Jean's history is interesting, especially the source of his magic an how far he's gone to keep Alaric safe. I love the people they meet, the flirty and still innocent way that Jean and Alaric interact and the love that is shared between the king and his children.
A great mix of action, drama, friendship and love. Definitely a recommended read and series! I only hope we get more from the shifter princes who are yet to take their own quest.
Greg's narration brilliant. He gives so much to the story as well as the characters and you can't help but fall in love with what you are listening to. A story that was so easy to consume in one go.

Okay, so King Alarick is old. The King of all Shifters is several millennia old. And so when I look at his picture, I have a hard time reconciling this. In my mind he’s much older looking. As is Jean. Jean has served as Alarick’s protector and companion for much of the time that the man has been in charge. Jean is blind, but well-able to perceive, anticipate, and meet his master’s needs. The other thing I didn’t understand is how one type of shifter can father other types. Alas, no worries, all is eventually revealed. I don’t want to spoil things, but I did learn about a few creatures I’ve never heard of. Thank you, internet, and some intrepid fellow reviewers who are smarter than myself.

This book, as with the two previous in the series, involves a quest. Alarick and Jean need to find the Scythe of Kronos. Knowing little about mythology, I went along for the ride. During the quest, Alarick comes to see his valet is also a friend and, eventually, a partner. And, of course, there’s a great battle. Because that’s what’s expected, right? And it’s proof Alarick has sired quite a few shifters in his time.

The book was good, and I enjoyed seeing characters from previous books make cameos. The series is narrated by Greg Boudreaux and I was glad because he always delivers a solid performance.
