Excellent historical fiction
I really enjoyed this book! There were some gory parts, but the main character was relatable. The Irish setting was a nice change of pace as most historical fiction I see takes place in England or mainland Europe. The sideways view of Henry II was interesting. The main characters idolises her father, who is her main motivation. He was a bit of a horrible person but plenty of people in history have wilfully ignored the bad in their larger than life parents. It was a very interesting read and I liked it a lot, would recommend!

beautifully written
I loved this book ,I can imagine the harsh weather ,the costumes ,the lives of the characters as though I was there ,beautifully written and thoroughly researched, I really reccomend this book !

Great storytelling
Another enjoyable listen from Elizabeth Chadwick, I've enjoyed all her books and linking the characters from one book to the other so the story becomes clearer with each addition.
The narration was very good too with clear voices for the different characters.

Standalone precursor to the William Marshal Books
Audiobook narrated by Aoifa McMahon
The beautiful Aoife MacMurchada is 14 years old when her father Diarmit, King of Leinster, is deposed by a new Irish high king and flees with his family to the England of Henry II. A mutual acquaintance suggests an alliance with Richard de Clare of Striguil on the Welsh Borders. Because of his support of Stephen during the Stephen/Mathilda conflict, Richard has recently been divested of Pembroke on the death of King Stephen and the accession of Henry, so he’s open to new opportunities, even if it means fighting for them. An alliance between Diarmit and Richard means a wedding, but Aoife isn’t about to be a pawn in anyone’s game. If she does this, she’ll do it on her own terms. Though the marriage is successful, it’s short, and Aoife consistently works to protect her future and her children’s inheritance through her guarded friendship with Henry II. Her daughter Isabelle de Clare will eventually resurface as the teen bride of William the Marshal in another of Chadwick’s books, The Scarlet Lion, and Marshal has a tiny walk-on part in this book. But The Irish Princess is quite firmly Aiofe’s story. Not, perhaps, my favourite Chadwick, but still very readable and entertaining. Aoifa McMahon’s narration works well.

Beautifully read but initially difficult get into the story
An interesting book historically and tough times more than explicitly explained
However of all the Elizabeth Chadwick books I have enjoyed, this was my least favourite .
