كان مالك وحيدًا في هذا العالم لا يملك أسرةً تزينها الأم ويحميها الأب كالآخرين وربّما لهذا السبب انطوى على نفسه وعلى أبحاثه لكنّ فكرة انتقاله إلى مملكة استورموفيا وشور كان ضربًأ من الخيال ونقطةً مفصليةً في حياته، فهل يستطيع التعايش معهم هناك؟ وهل يمكن أن يكون مفيدًا لهم؟ وهل سيرضى القائد شور بمنافسٍ له عقل مالك؟!
