A delightful glimpse into the lives of two very different people who became friends and were both better for it. A rare friendship that changed their lives and may change yours a bit too.

Some parts of this story were so moving and magnificent, let down by other parts that seemed trite, obvious and rushed. Maybe it was written over long period, with breaks in the writing. That's how if feels. Basically it's a good yarn with some parts of the relationship between the two main protagonists delved into deeper and deeper, with other elements hardly discussed at all. Would recommend but not unreservedly.

Enjoyable if uneven

Lovely story set in Greece of the friendship between Juliette and Aamen. I'll probably buy the next in the series.

Not sure where I heard about this audiobook, probably recommended by a fellow audible listener, but this was a very enjoyable book. A bit of a love and healing story, but really very good. Both the story and performance were excellent, so I will be listening to others in the series.

Really good!

Where does The Illegal Gardener rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am new to audiobooks and didn't know what to expect. I am familiar with the story as I bought the kindle version. It was a little like hearing the story through another person's eyes.

What did you like best about this story?

The story is wonderful! It is a story of an unlikely friendship in unusual circumstances. We shouldn't judge people until we know their circumstances. It can be so easy to misjudge people at face value. We don't know how much people such as the character of Aaman have to give! The setting of the Greek Village is beautiful and we can almost smell and hear the sounds and that is what makes the author such a great writer.

Which character – as performed by Suzanne Heathcote – was your favourite?

Juliet is my favourite as I am a great fan of the series but Aaman is a lovely sweet character that I would like to meet again.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It is so sad when Juliet thinks that she has lost Aaman it is very touching and we feel for her loss! The journey that Aaman takes to return to the village is so tense! When they are reunited it is so emotional.

i didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. A good story which makes you feel more compassionate to those in the world that are not as fortunate. Well told with great accents to enhance the story. Well worth a listen...

Great perspective on illegal immigration

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely didn't want to stop listening. Sad that it's over but looking forward to book 2.

Any additional comments?

Just a lovely story about two people struggling through life who meet up by accident and become friends. Simple and easy listening. No twisty turning plot to keep up with. A feel good story.

fantastic

I picked this book up as a Daily Deal and I'm so pleased I did. It's beautifully written and narrated, I could practically feel the heat and smell the hot trees.
Following listening to book 1 of the Greek Village series I downloaded more of the series to my Kindle and read them on holiday. I don't get time to read books now I'm back at home and rely heavily on my Audible account, I just wish that more of this series had been narrated.
I've been recommending the series to all my friends as top holiday reading!

Loved this charming story from beginning to end

This is beautifully evocative of a place and a community. It's quite a romantic view of life but maybe that's what we need every now and then.

Sweet & Evocative

Any additional comments?

It made an excellent audio companion on my daily exercise walk - Juliette and Aaman were great companions. It is thought-provoking - makes you realise (if you don't already) how tough life is for some people, and how hard they try to work their way to a better life.

Delightful story and an ideal audiobook
