About this listen

The explosive new book from Britain’s leading investigative biographer, Tom Bower

As one of the most famous and influential couples in the world, David and Victoria Beckham have attained iconic status. The ultimate power couple have together built a multi-billion-dollar global brand. For decades, adoring fans have been captivated by the glamorous world they have created, while their unrivalled fusion of showbiz, fashion, football and celebrity has been cultivated alongside the image of a strong marriage.

When the much-trailed Netflix documentary Beckham aired in 2023, viewers were offered an even more intimate insight into their private lives. Produced by the Beckhams themselves, the series raised many questions, not only about their success and personal relationship, but also about the ruthlessly successful management of their image in the media. Are their lives really as perfect as the Beckhams would like the world to believe?

Through extensive research, expert sourcing and interviews with insiders, Britain’s most celebrated investigative biographer, Tom Bower, has unearthed a succession of revelations that give surprising insight into the reality of ‘Brand Beckham’. Exploring the couple’s relationship, and the truth about their football and fashion careers, their finances and their new life in Miami, The House of Beckham unravels the extraordinary reality of the business-savvy cultural icons to tell an engrossing, often astonishing story of money, sex and power.

Despicable Greed

I'd always vaguely thought: 'good luck to D & V, they work hard' but listening to this has made me realise that they are foolish & greedy beyond all reason. Their tax avoidance measures are criminal & someone neds to stop this & prevent their spoilt kids living a pampered life at tax payers expense & the expense of our planet 🤮 😡🤬🤬

Bitchy tone

This is the second Tom Bower book and disappointed to note that his bitchy tone seems to under pin all his books and that will be very off putting for any further book purchases. With that being said the book darts about so in some cases difficult to know what year is in focus, not as linear as it could be and maybe that helps hiding the fact that Tom doesn’t always have the full facts therefore some lack of content, and is subjective instead. The Beckhams have made a large fortune off their name most is documented here but the tax parts hard to follow and the tone just made it feel that Tom was just jealous.

Really boring and repetative

I am a fan of Tom Bower's books but this one was pretty dreadful. It feels like it was written by a different author. It lacked the charm and wit I associate with Tom's books and I found the book uninteresting and dreary. Very disappointing!! Crude in places, too much information about their business interests and tax avoidance and it lacked any revelations other than those already well known. I didn't enjoy it at all.

Biggest Loads Of Rubbish

I’ve ever listened to.

A very negative opinion of almost everyone in this book, what a waste of a credit.

What sad vacuous people the Beckhams are.

Wasn’t keen on the narrator and was glad when it ended. The book was an eye opener to the sad lives of a couple who appear to put money before anything else. It highlights how we, as the general public, are taken in by the people who run the lives of the rich & famous! I ended up feeling sorry for them especially their children.

The vacuousness and self aggrandisement is staggering.

Like a guilty sin listening to the shenanigans of these two grifters levitating to great heights of wealth from such mediocre jump off points. Possibly the supplied information of tax dodging throughout leaves the bitterest taste. Especially as ‘Becks/Bucks’ keeps edging for the ultimate gong bequeathed to a commoner. A knighthood, which seems lightly given his new hook-up with the new King.

A sad insight of the world of celebrity.

Any reviewer who has criticised Tom Bower for writing this book the way he has needs to think about why they chose to read it in the first place. It’s obviously going to be biased- that’s his style. We read it because we wanted to nose into the famous family’s love and financial life. The reason why I have rated it a 3 is that it was repetitive, tedious at times and had glaring mistakes, such as referring to beckham’s sister as Joanna and not Joanne. Pretty basis info to get right.
I have to agree with the constant poking at VB’s eating disorder. She needs help and not mockery.
Have realistic expectations of any of these salacious biographies!

Bitchy

Misogynistic Tom Bower has done it again … without a doubt he tears his female personalities to shreds . Informative entertaining touched with schadenfreude .

Greed and vanity

If only half of this is true ( and if it’s not true surely they’ll sue as the love running off to lawyers), they really are grasping and vain
I know many celebrities live behind smoke and mirrors to portray a good image to the public but these two take it to another level
The finance / tax explanations are a bit of a slog on audio
They deserve each other
