I would be stunned if this was written by an Irish or Northern Irish person.

Even if you take the book as a spark notes version of the history of Ireland, the framing and details of events from 1912 onwards are completely all over the place; including insinuating the massacre at Croke Park was undertaken by the IRA. The troubles in particularly are glossed over, which is impossible to do if you are writing a book on the history of Ireland.

Avoid.

At just 3 hours long, The History of Ireland offers a brisk yet informative overview of Ireland’s complex and fascinating past. While it doesn’t dive deeply into any one era or event, it successfully touches on many key points—from early Celtic times to more modern political developments—making it a great entry point for those new to Irish history. The narration is clear and engaging, and the pacing makes it easy to absorb. If you’re looking for a solid introduction without getting bogged down in dense detail, this is a worthwhile listen.
