Frank Stockton was an American writer and humorist, best known for a series of innovative children's fairy tales that were widely popular. His most famous fable is "The Lady or the Tiger?" (1882), about a man sentenced to an unusual punishment for having a romance with a king's beloved daughter. Other memorable tales are "The Griffin and the Minor Canon", "Old Pypes and the Dryad", and "Mr. Tolman".

In The Griffin and the Minor Canon a griffin gets word that his likeness was used for a sculpture at a town's church and decides to investigate. His presence, unfortunately, throws the town into a panic, and they call upon the Minor Canon to rid their town of this creature. Zimmerman and Benson's enthusiasm ensures listeners of all ages will enjoy this story.
