About this listen

To the Jockey Club, the racing world would be a better place without Julius Apollo Filmer. An expert in corruption with a devastating line in witness intimidation, and proving to be a slippery character to put behind bars. Baffled, they call in undercover security agent Tor Kelsey to keep an unflinching eye on Filmer and his associates. A mission that takes him from the finest of English racecourses to the wild Canadian interior, on a luxury transcontinental train journey to end them all. On board, a troupe of actors are playing out a murder mystery to amuse their wealthy passengers. Ideal cover for a secret investigator with secrets of his own. And ideal cover, as it turns out, for an ice cool blackmailer with murder on his mind.©1988 Dick Francis (P)2014 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd. Dick Francis at his best and Tony Britten good narrating. Yes the recording is not great but it doesnt detract from the gripping storyline.
My only problem with the narrator is his dreadful rendering of female characters - but I have learned to endure it as the rest is so well read!

Excellent as always!

Audio was abit patchy earlier in the story but gets better. Also, the man reading starts low in his voice at the start of every chapter and goes up an octave throughout the following pages. So some performance inconsistencies- however it was an engaging storyline.

Great story- Audio funky at times

Excellent story as would be expected from Dick Francis..this may be one of his best. Expertly read by Tony Britton.
Only spoiled by some poor technical quality here and there.

Great Losten

Dick Francis dies not hand around and his narratives don’t make pace. I read the book thirty years ago and after touring Canada I enjoyed listening to the audio book and remembering the locations. The train journey is amazing as are Canadians and the book is highly entertaining.

I went on the rail trip 30 years later and enjoyed reliving the cities and towns and Alberta and British Columbia.

One of my favourite books. Un putdownable. Love reading it and having it read to me is just the best.

Typical Dick Francis. Brilliant

Great plot and beautifully narrated. Some background noise, at times it sounded like it was being narrated under water.

An excellent plot; brilliant.

Great story and narration as with most DF, shame about the sound quality though, which is awful, not enough to stop me listening though.

Brilliant as always
