About this listen

The Dive from Clausen's Pier reminds us how fragile our lives are and how quickly they can be divided into before and after. It begins with a disaster that could happen in anybody's life, and leaves us to asking what we know about our deepest allegiances. Elegantly written and ferociously paced, emotionally nuanced and morally complex, The Dive from Clausen's Pier marks the emergence of a prodigiously gifted new novelist.

Critic reviews

"This is a densely enveloping book, presented with uncommon assurance for a debut novelist. And it succeeds in raising profound moral issues within the context of ordinary life." ( New York Times)

Beautifully written, really takes you into Carries world and how she felt.
Wonderful descriptions of New York and her characters in the book.

Great read

The story starts well albeit sadly, but then drifts into mundane nothingness with little going on other than aspects of life from a human point of view including love, loss, guilt, uncertainty, I found it dull. Characters for me were stale - neither likeable or dislikeable. The narration is superb and if it wasn't for this, i would have given up on the book.

Slow& boring story / great narrator
