Knowing the truth will destroy her.
Keeping it secret will destroy him.

‘A powerful, beautifully crafted story that ratchets up the tension with every page and packs a huge emotional punch’ TM Logan, bestselling author of The Catch

It’s Livia’s 40th birthday and she’s having the party of a lifetime to make up for the wedding she never had. Everyone she loves will be there except her daughter Marnie, who’s studying abroad. But although Livia loves Marnie, she’s secretly glad she won’t be at the party. She needs to tell Adam something about their daughter but she’s waiting until the party is over so they can have this last happy time together.

Adam wants everything to be perfect for Livia so he’s secretly arranged for Marnie to come home and surprise her on her birthday. During the day, he hears some terrible news. He needs to tell Livia, because how can the party go on? But she’s so happy, so excited – and the guests are about to arrive.

The Dilemma – how far would you go to give someone you love a last few hours of happiness?

Very good

I’ve both loved and loathed this authors work. This was very good. You could feel the weight of the burdens people were carrying, it was so well written, the characters well drawn. The narrators were excellent.

Not really much of a Dilemma..

Not much of a Dilemma I thought the story was quite weak. It was recommended to me. But I wouldn't say it was that good.

Interesting concept but too drawn out lacking action

Like the others say it is very difficult to like the characters. It’s almost like as if they were sociopaths of some type.

The premise of how one action can start a chain of events is interesting but gets lost in a storyline that if you skipped the middle 10 chapters you could still follow (I fell asleep for 3 chapters and still could follow it when I woke up) I kept waiting for something to happen but it never really did.

However, the narrators do a great job and it wasn’t the worst book I’ve listened to it’s ok, to pass the time whilst you potter around.

Heartbreaking

Read very well and a great story, even though it was a different subject matter.

Great narrator

The book had a good storyline but the last 2hours were long and drawn out, this spoilt it , it’s based on human emotion but so in depth it made me miserable and I literally couldn’t wait for it to finish

Brilliant and Very emotional!

Without giving too much away the two main characters , their thought, feelings and fears are very well developed and you are taken on a twisty emotional journey with them. It’s a gripping listen. I usually only listen when I swim but had to carry on with this as I couldn’t wait. Probably for the best as I prefer not to cry in public!

Not much happened?

I kept waiting for the twist! There was one part where the two characters just seemed to speak over each other for ages without getting anywhere. The plot is just so small.

Performances were fine but very monotone - my housemate commented on it, and asked what on earth I was listening to. Just generally a bit disappointing.

Really Enjoyable

I really enjoyed this despite the bad reviews. I pushed through it in no time I couldn’t put it down. Even the kids were asking what had happened since they last heard it!!
