This author writes some of the grittiest crime thrillers I've read. Each book in this series seems to outdo the previous one, and this story is no exception. In it is horror, gruesome, heart rending, operational, excitement, breathholding, sadness, humour and sheer humanity in all it's forms.

From start to finish this instalment had me hooked. This was a fight to catch the culprits and save lives. Tragic, dark and intense, DS Maddie Ives has good instincts and due to a tragedy in DI Blaker’s life he decides to step back. His replacement does not come up to scratch, what will Maddie do about it? Will she convince Harry to come back? This is the last book in the series at the moment. I have to say it kept me riveted and I will absolutely miss the team. I suggest you pick up this book and be prepared to do nothing else. I loved it, suspects, victims, murders and a heart stopping ending, just Wow!!!

This is, without doubt, the best in this series, it may also, sadly, be the last but what a finale if so.

I listened to 'He Will Get You' yesterday and I very much enjoyed that too, but this one, I was up half of the night unable to sleep listening to this, it's terrifying, although I can already hear the complainers screaming that it's 'unrealistic' which some might believe to be the case, but I'm the kind of person who believes all things are possible and than that are no depths to which evil men will not sink to punish those that those they hold resposible for their own sins. This book is about those men. It's terrifying if you actually think about the realities of it, and yes, all of the things in this book COULD happen, people will be persuaded to give others up if their own loved ones are at risk, it happens all the time (it's how gangs control people).
This is NOT a book for the faint hearted nor is it a book for those who will complain about 'far fetched' at every slightly wonky story they hear/read.

Top notch thriller & suspense. Just absolutely love this Maddie Ives series. It’s everything I like from a crime police thriller. Narrator is superb. I’m invested in this series to the end now .
